Most non-powered subs have a crossover built in to send the higher frequencies to your main speakers(it probably has L/R speaker outs on the sub).

When I had my old non-powered sub connected to my Yamaha RX-V2095 I had it wired to the A mains, and then had the L/R main speakers connected to the L/R outs on the sub. It worked perfectly.

I also doubt that you will be able to use the A/B main speaker outs simultaneously. My dad tried to with his sony receiver(with my old sub) and it really put alot of strain on the amps, you had to turn the sound WAY up to get any volume. I was at his house one day and saw the position of his volume knob and checked the wiring. I rewired it the way I used it and it worked MUCH better.

What is the lowest setting on the AVR's internal crossover? I don't believe frequencies lower than that setting will be sent out L/R. If it won't go below 80Hz then you'll not hear anything below that. I'd also be cautious about chaining speakers w/o understanding the total load and how it will impact your amp. Doubling the speakers will double the load which will halve the voltage.

I'd hate to hear about your AVR getting blown. I'd hold off on the sub until you can find a decent one that's been gently used.
