In the living room I went directly from an old Sony 36" Wega tube television and DVD player, using the built-in television speakers, to this 7.1 HDTV Blu-Ray setup in the space of about a month. Prior to that I had mostly been watching movies on the 26" LCD computer monitor in my 'office' room, using Logitech Z-5500 speakers in a small 5.1 setup. Either way, it was a hell of an upgrade! I'm extremely happy with it.
In the near term, I'll likely add a gaming console and a Dell Zino HD computer as well as more Blu-Rays of course. A second A3-300 subwoofer is also a possibility. In the longer term, I can see myself replacing the TV with a projector and a 106" screen or so. Brent I got plenty of beer and a plane ticket if you feel like wiring up my stuff. Actually it looks pretty good now. I sleeve the wires and it will almost look professional. |

Wires, huh? Admittedly, I'm pretty used to nests of computer wiring so I didn't think much about it. We'll see if anything happens beyond the cord cover for the wires going behind the couch, which was a mostly defensive maneuver...:-)

Beautiful System.
I imagine in going to such a High Quality System, all at once;you were Completely Blown-Away. The Performance should be Incredible with the Components and Brands you Selected. Starting with a Denon AVR is a Great Choice. Denon delivers Good Sound Quality and amazing Features. Its also often rated as some of the best components for the money(Not to mention the Owner Loyalty of those who own Denon gear). Then I know your system has to sound Amazing. Using PSB Speakers was a Very Wise and Outstanding Move. They make some of the Finest speakers available. And are equally at home with both Movies and Music. Add an eD Sub on an Great Gramma for Isolation and Vibration dampening, and your systems performance is Greatly Increased (With the ability to reproduce almost any Bass Sequence in a Movie with Incredible Force and Clarity). You also made wonderful choices in your AV racks and towers. And VTI Speaker Stands are excellent Performers as Speaker Stands (and every product they Make). I am extremely Thrilled and Excited for you. That is a Tremendous System you have assembled/Using Top Quality gear all the way around. Congratulations and just sit back and Enjoy some Awesome Movie Performance on the 52 inch Monitor. Or outstanding music performance with PSB Speakers. |

Its hard to think about that, when a New System is just Amazing you with its Performance. I do Agree with Sean 100% in having a Great Wire Management Job (It can make your System look more Professional and Complete.)So,when you have some time get some zip ties(or better yet some Velcro Ties)Amazon is a good place to look. Along with some Cable Wrap and a few other items, that will make wire management so much easier. Just remember to keep the Power Cords to themselves and not mixed in with any Audio or Video Cables(to prevent any interference) And ,if you currently arent, invest a few dollars in some quality cables(MonoPrice,UltraLink, and a few others like AudioQuest)can give good returns for just a few dollars extra. And lastly dont forget about a Good Surge Suppressor (that protects all connections to your system. Not just Power cables, but Satelitte or CableVision Coaxial Connections and Phone Line Connections if they are present as well) And if you can spare a few more dollars down the Road a Line/Power Conditioner (That also handles all Surge Suppressor Connections is a very inexpensive price to pay for insurance that your system wont be damaged/Along with a Piece of Mind) But enjoy for now. Then work on the other items when you have the time and feel like tackling that job. But I do Love the System. Its outstanding in Every Piece,Speaker,Component, and Stand. Again,Congratulations! |

Hello Shawn.
Congrats on the "Enormous Upgrade"! It's very exciting isn't it? ![]() ![]() That's the great thing about this hobby, The Upgrade! It's also the achilles heal of this hobby! ![]() ![]() The PSB's look awesome! You have done well in your equipment selection, and you should be commended for the front speaker configuration. Placing the center channel on a stand and positioning it in front of the TV rack is no doubt the most effective way of getting the most out of the front sound stage. A lot of us (namely myself), cater to the aesthetic by placing the center channel within the TV stand. Even though I know my center channel performance would be improved if I applied the same concept you have. But I like a clean line of sight of my components display. ![]() Now there are a few of us that are cable management freaks! Fortunately, being that your system is simplistic (not a bad thing at all! ![]() Shawn, you've done good. |
