Thought you had decided on the B&Ws. Did the Dali dealer pique your interest?

Yep, I'd do that. What may be the tops for one person might not sound quite right to another. My dad had the euphonia ms5's (you could probably find them for under 6-10 now) awhile ago but he would always say something isn't quite right with them. So its really about personal taste (DEMO AS MANY brands as you can get you're hands on and that are in you're price range)

Euphonia here.

I think the Dalis sound great. With your music style though, they might not suit you.

I do agree with your statement, the Concepts are the only ones I would personally purchase because of the sound they have, the Ikons are really nice, but for straight up alternative rock and occasional rap or pop, I personally wouldn't go higher then the Concepts because they still have that edginess that you want with those types of music, once you get into the ribbon tweeters they do take on that more Jazzy feel.

Ryan I think you will really like the Dali's, but like Jason said, they may not be for the type of music you will be using them for, especially if you hear their upper lines. Are you going back to that Crazy guy?

ya i am, giving him a shot to make him shut up. he called me 3 times today and i only answered once. he goes on about what dali is doing and now the ikons are being discontinued with the lektors taken over, and then he went on about concepts are going away as well. so he was saying its either the mentors or the lektors in my price range.

of coarse he had to go on again about quality drivers and who makes them and that pretty much all other speaker lines use what he calls (el-cheapo) drivers. he is a fan of dali, focal, sonus fabar, dynaudio and a few others, what ever. so his new deal is for some lektor 8 towers which i guess they retail for $1800 and that he could do them for $1350 brand new.

does anyone have a link to the retail prices of dali speakers? cant seem to find them?

Which B&W model were you thinking of?
I would try to audition the Euphonia series. I've had the MS4s since '04 and they still manage to bring a smile to my face.

I don't know all their prices. I can say I know the Concept 8s are $1300 list, and the Ikon 7s are $3500.

That really sucks if the Concepts are going away, That was one speaker I was hoping to upgrade to down the road. If they are not going to be around anymore, then that will limit my choices even more.... I mean I wasn't planning on getting new speakers for a while but the Concepts were already on my list of upgradable speaker choices.

Oh well, the Dynaudio Focus 140s still need to be auditioned by myself also, so if those are very suitable HT/Music speaker they may be on my short list now.

That is a speaker you could look into also, the Dynaudio Focus 140s.

the lektor 8 towers retail for $1800, he is going to give 25% off which comes to $1350, thats not bad and they are a step up from the concepts.

No that is definetly not a bad price. If you really like them, then you will be in the price range you desire. My thing was the Ribbon tweeters just don't do it for Rock music or Alternative, I pretty much thought that you wouldn't go for the Mentors because they may not have had that rock sound to them.... I listen to a lot of Tori Amos and John Mayer also, and the ribbons were great for that, but when I want to play OutKast or Incubis or Tool or something, I just didn't dig the Ribbons. I do listen to orchestra music too, and that was great on the ribbons, as the highs really peaked on the violins and so forth, but my PRIMARY music like Rise Against and those listed above, just aren't really ribbon material. IMO. For me what I found is that the Concepts (and perhaps the Lektors) would allow me to rock to the music that is my most common, but still give me the ability to play the other stuff too, and do it better then my Energys.

I am just saying if the local dealer here were to try to sell them to me for $1600-1800, then why not look at Dynaudio X32s for just a little more, or Dyn Focus 220s, even find as Rhett pointed out B-stock items that dealers used for demo and get a really good discount.

Not just that but the Focus 140s cost about $1500 new, and could probably do more then most $1500 towers. It is another thought that I had also.

i hear ya, but the lektors dont have ribbon tweeters, check out the link below:
http://dali-speakers.com/display_con....html/181/1077

"The 28 mm soft dome tweeter is specially developed for the LEKTOR Series with high power handling and an acoustic lens to ensure ideal off-axis response with wide dispersion and consistently smooth sound across a large listening area. "

i dont think you would mind these at all compared to the concepts, better bang for your buck i would think. now i havent heard them yet, but one would think a bit better than concepts.

If I could hear them and they sounded great and get them for $1350, I would go for it.
