Does anyone know why some of my cases are different? Some of my discs have the bluray logo on top of the case just printed on, others have it textured into the plastic. The spines on both are different also, one is thicker. Has anyone else realised this, do those distinguish earlier releases vs. the newer ones?

Just different manufacturers or models, I think. There are surprising number of variations, I only have 15 discs and there are at least 4 or 5 distinct cases.
I like Sony and Disney's recent ones (actually I don't know if Disney was different before, but Sony had slightly different cases before), with a slightly tapered edge on the right thumb handle. (Does anyone know what I'm talking about?) Makes me feel less like I'm breaking the plastic every time I open the case. ![]() enjoy gandalf ![]() |

warner brothers releases the printed, more rounded type. the rest of the studios release the other one with the optional latch. i believe only one or two of mine don't have the latch there, but even if not, you can check by opening the case and pulling the at the notch, it'll release the flap "latch" and you can have a little extra security if you want. otherwise you can press it down back into place as there are two little teeth to grab and hold it so it looks like a convential dvd.
i bought a few extra cases from sleevetown to replace any gooed up or fubared cases that i may run into down the line. 75 cents a piece from sleevetown. |

And no one mentions that lame dark blue some of the releases used to have versus the cool light blue?

Though, Fox has used dark blue CG renderings of their cases for publicity art, I've never seen an actual dark blue case. Regardless of case make or disc capacity, all that I've seen have been the same royal blue.

I try to submit my BD covers with the correct cases, but two of the 20th century Fox cases are not accepted. Others from 20th Century Fox are, strange.
look at my online collection for different cases. |

Fox uses the same cheap cases as Warner, as does Paramount with two-disc sets. I've found the style cases that Sony, Disney, and Lionsgate uses to me much more durable (better plastic) and hold the discs better. I don't know how many discs I've recieved from Fox and Warner with broken spindles or binders and loose discs inside. Haven't recieved a single damaged case or loose disc from Sony or Disney. As hard coating is practically impervious to scratching (within reason), loose discs aren't a problem with BD. But, it's an enormous irritation with HD DVD. The embossed logo also doesnt' wear off nearly as easily. Last edited by Chad Varnadore; 07-10-2007 at 04:33 PM. |

It's probably mostly dependant on the facility where they press, I know that's the case for DVD cases. While you may state a preference, they will use whatever is on hand, and obviously the bigger your runs the more important your preference is.
More than likely Fox/Warner is pressing one place, Sony is pressing others who deal with 2 different case manufacturers |
