Default HDMI cable question/help

I have a Sony BDP-S300 that i've had for 2 years now - have had no problems with it at all but I will be purchasing a BDP-S570 next month as I like the new features. I will be giving my S300 to my parents and want to know the best HDMI cable to purchase for them so that they may connect it to their Sony HDTV (no audio equipment is involved). When I bought the player, I purchased a Monster HDMI cable (I know, I spent too much, but I didn't know any different 2 years ago). The cable does not have to long at all, but I want to make sure I buy reliable one - or all they all the same? Some are gold plated which I've always been told are "better" - but I thought i'd ask here first. Also, do I need to concern myself with HDMI 1.1 or 1.3? I do not recall which one was sold to me when I purchased the one I own and use now.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Link --

Monoprice is a highly recommended website by many members here (and I recommend it/have used it several times myself). Great prices and great quality cables (and reasonable shipping rates)...take a look at their inventory and don't hesitate to post if you have any questions. For the record, I don't think Monster cables are necessarily bad cables, but I do think they are extremely overpriced. Monoprice's cables are used by professionals and hobbyists alike and as you see come in a much nicer price range

Main site: http://www.monoprice.com

Monoprice HDMI cable selection: http://www.monoprice.com/products/se...d=hdmi%20cable

These are what I have used/what I would recommend to you: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
*Of course, cable length is your call

These are just my suggestions. I'm sure other members will voice their thoughts too

Thanks for your help! Sussudio, I looked over the cable you selected and I think it looks like a good option - I'm going to purchase this one. I can't believe how cheap it is to be honest. W/shipping it's approx. $7.00. So this cable is 1.3a I noticed - I did a little bit of reading and it looks like this will provide for a better picture - is this correct?

Here's a section that specifically relates to your inquiry:
Quote:
What’s new in the HDMI 1.3 Specification?

-Higher speed: Although all previous versions of HDMI have had more than enough bandwidth to support all current HDTV formats, including full, uncompressed 1080p signals, HDMI 1.3 increases its single-link bandwidth to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) to support the demands of future HD display devices, such as higher resolutions, Deep Color and high frame rates. In addition, built into the HDMI 1.3 specification is the technical foundation that will let future versions of HDMI reach significantly higher speeds.

-Deep Color: HDMI 1.3 supports 10-bit, 12-bit and 16-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 8-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification, for stunning rendering of over one billion colors in unprecedented detail.

-Broader color space: HDMI 1.3 adds support for “x.v.Color™” (which is the consumer name describing the IEC 61966-2-4 xvYCC color standard), which removes current color space limitations and enables the display of any color viewable by the human eye.
New mini connector: With small portable devices such as HD camcorders and still cameras demanding seamless connectivity to HDTVs, HDMI 1.3 offers a new, smaller form factor connector option.

-Lip Sync: Because consumer electronics devices are using increasingly complex digital signal processing to enhance the clarity and detail of the content, synchronization of video and audio in user devices has become a greater challenge and could potentially require complex end-user adjustments. HDMI 1.3 incorporates automatic audio synching capabilities that allows devices to perform this synchronization automatically with total accuracy.

-New HD lossless audio formats: In addition to HDMI’s current ability to support high-bandwidth uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby® Digital and DTS®), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.
Does this help?

Yeah, that helps!! Thanks!

One last question - the new Sony BDP-S570 that I will be pre-ordering, it says it has HDMI 1.4 - now, it is my understanding that this will be for the 3D feature - and since that's pretty much useless at this point, my 1.3 HDMI would still work right? Or would I have to buy a 1.4 cable?

1.3 will still work with your TV and components, yes As for when you want to use the 3D technology, I believe you will need a 1.4 cable but I am not 100% sure on that. I haven't read up too much on the at-home 3D TV/tech (It's on my to do list )

Thanks for the response - yes, I have to do some more research on the at-home 3D myself - not liking the fact that i'll have to purchase another TV (mine is 3 years old though)...but if the price is right, and it's impressive enough...you never know.
