Default Sunshine: Blu-ray vs. DVD. Thoughts?

So I just watched my DVD copy of Sunshine again and it looked amazing as always. I'm curious if the Blu-ray copy is worth getting or just watch the DVD in my blu-ray with upconversion? Has anyone compared the two first hand? I don't doubt the Blu-ray but I'd hope for an even more amazing picture if I were to buy it.

The blu blows it away, no comparison. Unless you're watching on a 32" or smaller lcd from over 12 feet away, get the blu.

The low IMDB rating is turning me away. Is the movie really that good?

Have you ever heard of a place called Blockbuster Video? I recommend you look it up, it could save you a lot of money in the long run.

I own a 32", and you need to get the blu regardless. You will be amazed when you see the difference. I want to say its on sale at amazon right now as well isn't it? $13.99 or $14.99 last time I saw.

I rented the dvd when it came out (before I had blu) and it was almost difficult to watch in comparison to the amazing DLP theatrical release. I got the Blu-ray a while back and it's one of my favorite disc for visual quality.

To the guy asking if the movie was any good, its brilliant and one of my very favorite films from the year of its release. Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire) directed it and most of his work is top shelf.

I used to rent movies all the time, but I had a bad experience in the past, so I stopped renting from them.

Also, 7.3 maybe isn't that low, but it's nowhere near the top 250. I meant it's a low rating on IMDB, compared to a couple of members I've seen on here who have given it such high praise.

The third act is very polorizing, you will either love it or hate it.

Imdb top 250 is a joke It's biased and short-sighted in ways I can't begin to describe here without getting very verbose. If you're weary of a film because it's not one of the 250 on that list, I'm not sure what to say. Well that's not true. I'd say, "Never decide what to watch based on imdbtop 250", heh. But even in the grand scheme of imdb, 7.3 isn't close to low

You seem to have enjoyed Kick-Ass quite a lot based on your avatar. The man who directed Kick-Ass is a huge fan of Danny Boyle. In fact, part of the score from Sunshine is actually used in Kick-Ass' soundtrack. If you are a fan of Matthew Vaughn's style(which is influenced by Danny Boyle's works) and a fan of thought provoking sci-fi, you'll enjoy this.

I don't care if it's in the top 250. I know a 7.3 isn't bad. I would just feel a little assured if it had at least a 7.6-7.8 rating. The Metacritic score is pretty average too, but it also has some really crappy reviews including a 0/100 from the San Francisco Chronicle.

I've seen many crappy movies with ratings higher than 7.3. I would just expect a Danny Boyle movie to be higher, since he has some fanboys from the 28 Days and Week Series and Slumdog Millionaire.
Just one question, is this movie boring or drags in any way? Thanks.

I thought the score was from 28 Weeks Later?

The score for the Big Daddy(teddy) scene is 28 Days Later, the Hit-Girl(strobe-lights!) scene is Sunshine.

The movie isn't really for the ADHD generation. People don't randomly start fighting for no reason. The movie is slow in the beginning, but it speeds up in the final two acts. If you find Ridley Scott's Alien slow and boring, then you won't like it. I think the film is paced similarly to Alien.

Sunshine is probably one of my favorite Blu-rays.

1. The PQ is great. Lots of fine details in the CGI and costume design. There's more color than you'd expect from a dark sci-fi film too. It's a huge step up from the DVD.

2. The AQ. Great surround use and you get to hear its magnificent score in lossless DTS-HD MA.

3. Exclusive special features on Blu-ray.

I wouldn't say it ever really drags. It's not "pulse pounding" the entire time, but the plot progresses pretty steadily. As someone else mentioned above, the ending (more acuurately, the last 20 minutes or so) is quite polarizing and may ultimately sway your evaluation of the entire film.

I have horrible ADHD and I still love this movie, I even love it more every time I see it.
