Default bluray troubles

maybe this sounds familiar: when watching blus on ps3 slim via hdmi into denon 590 the screen quicly goes green or red. not a skip but something. happens at least twice during movies. do i have to narrow it down? ya know, hook up ps3 (current firmware update) directly to tv. try to elminate or confirm the denon. could it be anything? player, receiver, cables? why? it was working perfect for 6 months. thanks

I get random black screen flashes while watching DVDs or Blu-rays on my PS3. No biggie, they are annoying for sure, but nothing worth fussing too much over.

Australia Cannot Access Movie MAIN MENU

I am sorry to invade your thread, however I am a newbie and I cannot post my own thread for some reason. I thought my problem would be relevant under the "Technology and News" section.

I own the LG Bd-370 (with the latest firmware) and 3 movies so far, as soon as I put them in, they go straight into the movie without displaying the MAIN MENU first.

It doesnt matter if I press the "menu" button on the remote it says "action not allowed".

THe only thing I can do, is SKIP THE WHOLE MOVIE TO THE END, and after the movie is finished THEN it goes to the main menu!

I did search about the problem I am experiencing and I could not find any mention of it, so I am rather surprised that nobody else has it! (if there is a thread about this problem then my apologies)

ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!

I tried it on my friends PS3 also (latest firmware) and its doing the same!

THE 3 movies doing it so far are BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT and KISS OF THE DRAGON (Jet li).

Does anyone have this problem on the movies mentioned above? OR any other movies? I got those movies from ebay (Region B Australia) And although they seem geniune the BATMAN copies are EUROPEAN versions, however the KISS OF THE DRAGON is Australian version.

Can anybody help??

THANKS A LOT

The two Batman films do not have a main menu, Warner did that for some reason on all of its earlier releases. I don't know if Kiss of the Dragon is WB. But the Batman movies will go directly into the movie and will not default to HD audio either. WB was NOTORIOUS for this on their DVD releases too

Warner has been notorious for the auto-start "feature". It's pretty simple actually. When a Warner movie starts, press the Pause button on your remote to pause the movie, and then the button to open the sub-menu. From there you should be able to access everything (including the top menu, if it has one). Other than that, you'll never be able to get non-NEWER Warner movies to display a menu prior to starting the movie.

Not true, their newer releases have had menus... Ninja Assassin, Harry Potter 6 and the Ultimate Editions, Hangover, Where the Wild Things Are, Sherlock Holmes. These all have menus and do not auto start.

Emphasis on NEWER. The movies he listed were not NEWER and will never display top menus prior to auto-starting.

But since my previous post was not entirely accurate, I will revise my previous post.

Edit: Refresh my memory, did Watchmen and Terminator: Salvation have menus or did they just auto-start??

Thanks for all your quick replies guys!

Actually I did watch Serlock Holmes yesterday too and It did go to the main menu as normally. Also the KISS OF THE DRAGON is being distributed by 20th Century Fox.

If WB really did create the auto-start feature, why would they do that?? I think its the worst thing ever not be able to access the main menu! What is the point of having a Blu-ray movie if you are not able to access the main menu?? (Until you skip to the end??)

Man dude, its not that it bothered me, you just said that he would NEVER be able to have a Warner release showing menus before the movie started. I was just saying that they started doing that. Just passing along information. Snoogins.

It bothers me too, I HATE the auto start feature, and I HATE that older WB movies defaulted to dolby digital (which is pretty much worthless with the core tracks to lossless audio) but what do I know. Luckily, they stopped doing it, sucks that some of my fav movies are like that tho. The matrix does it too

To appease the people who criticize how long it takes to actually start the movie. Not everyone minds having the movie just play. The biggest issue I had with non-newer Warner movies was that the disc often defaulted to the lossy audio codec. And with launching directly into the movie, many people often forgot to check the audio because the top menu didn't launch to remind them. It's gotten me on a couple of occasions, most notably when I was watching I Am Legend and I couldn't figure out why the audio sounded restricted.

Personally, I'm not opposed to popping the disc in and having it take me straight into the movie (keep all the previews, commercials, and the infomercials about how piracy is bad, could land you in prison for 5 years and a fine of $250,000), but default to the lossless track first. Then, if the player or receiver cannot decode the lossless, only then move down to the lossy track. Again, there's nothing that can be done with these non-newer discs. But it does appear that Warner (as well as the other studios) have finally made the lossless tracks the standard on new releases.

Your point was taken and I revised my post. Forgive me for not having seen Harry Potter or Sherlock Holmes. My point was that any disc currently encoded to auto-start will never change unless the studio issues a new release of that movie (hence, it will never display a top menu). I realize my post wasn't entirely accurate to reflect the newer releases, which is why I revised that post and the one below it.

See I COMPLETELY agree, if the disc has DTS HD MA or Dolby True HD, then it should DEFAULT to the lossless track, b/c even if you can't receive lossless audio, at least to my understanding, EVERY BD player can decode the lossy core tracks, so a DD 5.1 or DTS standalone isn't even necessary. The only time it is if the disc has PCM and not lossless codec, then it should default to DD.

However, I do like it to go to the menu first cuz I like popping in a movie, going and getting myself a drink and maybe a snack, then coming back tot start the movie. I don't like having to wait to pause, or having to go back to the beginning, but that's all minor I guess in the grand scheme. At least WB stopped that HORRIBLE practice of ONLY including lossy audio...

Yeah, the menu didn't make a big difference to me and I could live with or without the commercials. At least the lossless tracks are the default now. Now if Paramount would just re-release Shooter, Mission Impossible series, Face/Off and others with lossless, I'd be a real happy camper. Not likely though......

Yes I believe your correct on Term. Sal. I have gotten used to it cuz it lways plays they best audio codec to begin with so I don't need to check it.

Default LG Bd-370 Audio Static

I also own the LG BD-370 with the latest firmware update and am having issues with certain Blu-Ray discs and the audio. The only movies I have had issues with are Jennifer's Body, Ice Age 3, and Day Breakers. The previews are fine as is the main menu, but once I play the movie, I get this awful static sound both through my surround sound and television.

The customer service wasn't very helpful by telling me to update my firmware. I've searched multiple websites for this and keep finding people with the same problem, but no solution.

I'm able to play other newer movies like Avatar, but no luck with these three. I've considered upgrading to a newer player through a different brand other than LG, but I really would like to get this to work. I've also read that LG is constantly lagging with their firmware updates. Please help!
