Recently Pixar have announced that Monsters, Inc 2. will hit theatres on November 16th 2012 making this there third sequel in 2 1/2 years. So do you think that the amount of sequels Pixar are producing a is a good thing for the company and audiences?
The current list of upcoming Pixar movies looks like this: Toy Story 3 - Summer 2010 Cars 2 - Winter 2011 Brave (previously The Bear and the Bow) - Summer 2012 Monsters, Inc. 2 - Winter 2012 Meaning we would have on average three sequels in about 2 1/2 years, which seems rather bold for the company that never does sequels. So should we be worried that Pixar are running out of originality or do you think Pixar will pull through with this. In my view I think that they will easily pull through on this as John Lassester is possiblely the greatest person in animation at this moment and if he feels that these sequels will work, then I see no reason as to why they won't be good. It also seems that each sequel has a genuine reason for being made: Toy Story 3 had been knocking around for a number of years, and so it seemed only natural for a second sequel to come out since Toy Story 2 had been produced, and it Toy Story is still extremely popular and so audiences want to see another adventure, as do Pixar I'd guess. Cars 2 is being produced mainly because one of Pixar's greatest contributers, Joe Ranft, died during production on the first film and so John Lassester and the rest of Pixar felt it was only natural to produce a sequel in his memory. Monsters, Inc. 2 is likely being made because Pixar wanted to revisit some of their older characters for a second outing and see what happened after the first movie, and in my view Monsters, Inc. is one of the best to choose for a sequel, along with The Incredibles. I'm really not worried at all, because it is clear that Pixar are not doing this just more money, far from it, since they are doing a sequel to a movies that is 11 years old by the time they're released. And if they were just trying to cash-in on their movies they would pick more recent ones so people would recognise the characters better. There is my view, sorry it was so long, but I felt that this needs to be adressed properly. What do you think about the Pixar sequels, and don't forget there is one orginal film, Brave, slap bang in the middle of all the sequels. ![]() Last edited by Jezza; 04-30-2010 at 04:17 PM. |
