Default led tv's

So am i right in thinking these LED tvs are still liquid crystal for how the actual picture is made up but they are just lit differently at the back.

Yes, they are all LCDs. Liquid crystals (LCDs) make the colors, but they need to be lit from behind in order for you to see them. That's where LEDs come in. They provide the light source.

basically, it's easier to say "LED TV" over "LCD with LED backlighting" lol

No, basically they are trying to sell tv's by making the general public think they are getting something completely new. I saw a post on AVS where a guy said that LCD's were getting cheaper because LED's were a new and better tv technology when in fact they are 99% identical. He went on to say that lcd companies were "scared" of led because lcd's would go away!!!! LOLOL I personally 100% blame Samsung for all of this mis-information brainwashing people by calling them LED tv's when they are lcd tv's.
