If it's a huge hit movie and the blu ray releases soon... then it's a good thing...

It really depends on the movie and the artwork. Also, online stores must ship them properly to avoid scratches and dents, because Steelbooks get damaged very easily.

Dear Blu-ray Member ,

With reference to your post , nice to see somebody else is taking a step forward to promote Bollywood movies on steelbook as well. The studio houses were approached by the steel book company reps based in china and only 1 company yash raj films made a steel book which was dhoom with dhoom 1+2 + making ,in a tin box which was sold world wide but was on a DVD Format only .

The Main reason why majority of the bollywood studios are not taking the steel book on currently is due to min qty's they have to commit to and we have spoken with them on this issue being based from bombay and they state when the market picks up in the future they will consider it.

We wouldl like to share some information with you in case you have not already got it ,

This is the last email we got from steelbook china office ,which im sure all the indian distributors have as well, but this is information for you ,depending in which country you are in .

Hi Raghav,

Thank you very much for a nice conversation just now.

As promised I hereby confirm that our minimum order quantity for the printed Blu-ray SteelBook™ case is 4,000 units per title / sku. For the SteelBook™ label the minimum order quantity is only 2,000 units.

For the printed SteelBook™ the standard lead time is 28 working days from receipt of artwork till dispatch from our factory . For the SteelBook™ label we only need 21 working days.

I have attached the quotation which we sent you 5 months ago agian – these prices are still valid .

If there is anything else, I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to receiving some artwork for the first titles and will get you some comments and ideas on how to achieve the best result on SteelBook™ from our design team. When do you think I can have it?

Kind regards,
Thomas

Thomas Lade
Sales Manager
SteelBook™ Division

The steelbook artwork he is talking about is a tamil movie we are working on with which we are discussing with a tamil company which may come out end of the year, which we cannot disclose any more information on currently .

Hope this information helps you in working with your production house you mentioned ,incidendlty which movie are you releasing if you can share that information with us .

Kind Regards

Raghav
Bollyblurayindia

PS if any body wants any more clarifications on steelbooks please Pm on the forum and i will gladly reply back depending on the time zone .

Thanks for the info. It sounds legit, but I wasn't aware that there was a SteelBook manager in China. With all the Iron Paks coming out from China, I would doubly make sure that this is genuine SteelBook packaging from Scanavo and not imitation Iron Pak or Metal Pak casing.

I personally do not care about steelbooks,

they may be fancy, but they have more disadvantages than advantages,

they dent, they scratch, they print wears off, rust?, a reason for companies to overprice their product, and it mismatches the rest of the collection

and the few advantages would be that it is a greener choice than plastic, although it contains plastic components itself, its looks fancy.

I see steelbook as a hyped but useless product.

I've personally never heard of the print on a Steelbook wearing off or rusting, has this ever happened to you? Sure, they can scratch and dent, but if you are gentle with them, this does not happen (you should never put two together or they will rub against each other and scratch). A Steelbook is a physical collectible item in limited quantity that can last forever. Blu-rays will not last forever, but these collectible cases will always remain of some value, especially to movie fans and collectors. It not only looks fancy, but if you've ever seen one in person, it is a lot more beautiful than the standard Blu-ray case, almost like a piece of artwork. It is hyped, but only with good reason.

I would definitely buy; however, it would depend on the movie.

I bought my Star Trek steelbook blu-ray IN STORE at Futureshop in early December. Come Christmas time, i open it and find that the hinge was broken. Thankfully it can still close properly, but the spine of the steelbook juts out.

lol Well there are a couple of reasons. One, it was weeks later since i got it and i can't remember if there was a gift receipt or not. Two, i don't think they had any more in stock, since steelbooks tend to go fast. Three, i just decided the movie was more important haha.

I got mine from play and there was slight dent on the item they refunded me £4 for the dent, so you should have still told them as they would have done something for it
