Default Display or Secure Your BDs?

Having nearly 200 BDs is making me consider how attractive a target they would be in case someone broke in my home.

While I look to look at them and fawn over them, pet them and call them "George"....I can't help but think I'd be smarter securing them...but it's such a drag putting them away et al.

Does anyone have insurance riders for their collection? What about utilizing fire safes? Seeeeeeeeekrit storage compartments? Or does everyone just let it all...hang...out.

Right now, I've got all mine on display. But I might think about securing them sometime in the future.

My agent says I'm covered for my all equipment and media that I have documented (It gets updated monthly and is stored in safety deposit box at my bank).

I put shelves up along the walls, but in the old house I kept them (and DVDs) in a walk-in-type closet in a spare bedroom, because I didn't have a dedicated room at the old house, and I couldn't stand having them take up so much room, and kill pretty much any decorative 'style' we had going in the room.

If my main setup was my living room, I'd get large cabinets with doors etc, so I wouldn't have to look at them.....

As far as "security" you'd experience some serious sticker shock if you saw how much LARGE fire-proof safes cost, and my belongings are included in my home-owner's insurance. If someone stole all my movies, it'd be the happiest day of my life, because even after the deductible, the insurance company would probably pay out $20 per DVD, and $35-$40 per Blu-ray (basically MSRP) and my 1,200+ DVD collection would hit pay-dirt!

I keep my 200+ collection including my SteelBooks in my walk in closet. I lock it too when I'm not home.

i dont know.

if someone broke into your house. i doubt their first thoughts would be "Blu-rays!!"

if they are in your living room.
i guess don't show off all of them? put most away.

My movies are covered under my insurance policy. In my opinion, if one feels they have lock up the Blu-rays in some hidden place, one might want to ask "why do I collect" ?

Blu-rays were meant to be enjoyed. Enjoy them. There are more important things in life, than Blu-rays. In all things, balance.

If someone broke into my house, my blu-rays are the least of my concern.

I display my Blu-rays. They are stored in a very expensive display case that can only be opened via the same way the one guy enters the room in Monsters vs. Aliens.

You can't carry that many Blu-Rays at a time... If you try to grab too many they just kinda fly out of your hands... I wouldn't think it very lucrative to try to grab some and run.

BTW original post is hilarious

I have mine in shelves in the Wardrobe. Its pretty good, keeps them out of sight incase someone looks in the window, and leaves room for other stuff.

Not real worried about my BDs getting stolen. Insurance would take care of that. I would worry far more about persinal belonings that aren't so easy to replace.
