Default What are some AWESOME Action Blu-ray movies?

Hey guys,

I am the kinda guy that likes to get Blu-Ray DVDs for movies that just truly benefit so much more by being in high-def, such as Ghost Rider, Fifth Element, Starship Troopers (soon), Ultraviolet, the X-Men movies, Live Free or Die Hard (soon), and Independence Day (soon), and others. I am currently making a list of movies that are coming out and that are currently out that are Action (preferrably) or Sci-Fi. I love comedies, but I usually just buy them for regular DVD. Can anyone tell me of some that have awesome action or beautiful, vibrant colors that will truly change my viewing experience?

Into the Blue is really nice due to all the underwater scenes and not to mention jessica alba. The movie itself is good aswell.

Actions (some with a bit of sci-fi taste):

Casino Royale
The Island (import from UK)
Layer Cake
Mission Impossible 3
Aeon Flux

Assuming you are interested in sci-fis without a lot of action, the following are good too:

A Scanner Darkly
The Fountain

Not sure if war movies count as actions:

Black Hawk Down
Kingdom of Heaven

As far as beautiful, vibrant colors go...this one's got tons of bright colors and has even a little alien invasion:

Chicken Little

enjoy
gandalf

Oo, hadn't heard of The Island, but it sounds good from the reviews I just read. How did you like it?

I liked it better when it was called "Parts: the Clonus Horror", and MST3K's Mike, Crow and Servo made fun of it.

Seriously though--Wouldn't say "vibrant colors", but I'm still waiting to see what "Unforgiven" looks like in 1080.

Hellboy...great action flick and awesome PQ. I really never even thought about buying this movie until I read the review here. Also, the Patriot is a great action movie.

Both movies have the "beautiful, vibrant colors" you seek.

1. Alien VS. Predator
2. Flags of our Fathers
3. Flyboys
4. Hellboy
5. The Patriot
6. Pearl Harbor
7. POTC 1&2
8. Underworld Evolution
9. Windtalkers

Those would be my top 10.
Mischa.

I just watched Apoctalypto for the second time last night, and I was indeed impressed. Very vibrant colors and action packed.

Besides the other titles above, be sure to have a look at "Crank". Pure adrenaline action from start to finish, and one of the top 10 encodes on Blu-ray.

Another vote for Casino Royale and Apocalypto. Also, Blood Diamond has some good action sequences.

There's nothing quite like watching stuff blow up in high-def.

Agree 100%. You see the close ups of Jason Statham's face when he's driving & soaked with sweat? Amazing detail.

Don't forget if you have a PS3 and buy Stranglehold (the game) it has Hard boiled the movie on the disc as well. You can't get more action packed than that.

Im suprised noone mentioned deja vu.

It was a decent action flick with a sci fi twist.

Agree. Much better than "Next", that our friends from the red side can keep for themselves.

Maybe I didn't read all the posts well enough, but I didn't see anyone mention Terminator 2. Theres nothing like the mini-gun scene in the sound format it was meant for.
