Can BDP-S300 combined with my yamaha receiver do lossless audio? - Blu-ray Forum

I own a Yamaha RX-V661 receiver and want to buy a BDP-S300 if it can do lossless audio. My Yamaha can only pass 7.1 LPCM(no on board trueHD) so I need to know if the S300 is able to?

I do not believe the BDP-S300 can decode Dolby TrueHD (yet). But if the Yamaha reciever (love Yamaha recievers by the way) accepts 7.1 PCM, when the player decodes TrueHD you'll be able to use it.

Losselss yes. TrueHD? Not yet. A firmware update should allow it, but when the update will come? dont know.

By the way, the s300 is NOT hdmi 1.3.

If youre looking for on board Dolby TrueHD audio and 1.3 you should get a PS3. If you dont care about the 1.3 then you should get the Panasonic DMP-BD10a

Actually, I believe you will need 1.3a to support outboard processing of Dolby TrueHD.

Otherwise, you'll have to depend on your player to support Dobly TrueHD decoding and send it out to you as mutlichannel PCM via HDMI 1.3 (8 ch) or 1.1 (6 ch).
