Ive been watching our new family room TV (42" pana 75 series) and after about 20 minutes of 480i(HDMI arrives tomorrow

You should watch nothing but full screen content the first 200hrs you use your Plasma display. I personally recommend the break-in DVD you can download off of the AVS forums. Luckily you're TV should still fall in the return period if you bought your TV from a big box retailer. If you got it online I couldn't say for sure what you should do. Watch nothing but full screen content for a day or two and see if the image retention goes away.

what about playing video games.. Ie; Madden.. after the break in period i dont wanna burn the tv in with the scoreboard after the return period(30 days)

Honestly, if your that concerned - get an LCD.
We have 2 plasmas in the house. One is used with an XBOX. No issues at all. One is used for tv viewing. When it was first new, there were signs of "burn-in" but those faded in a few minutes. Now, burn in not a problem. There may be residual images on the screen, but all tv's do that - even CRT's. They clear out after a while. No problems. Xbox one is a Panasonic, TV one is a Samsung. Both 42" |
