Did you try restarting the PS3 and trying the download again?

Could just be a server problem on sony's side. Try again in a few days or try downloading it from a computer and storing the update on a thumb drive, then insert the thumb drive into your ps3 and select update from storage media device instead of update via internet. Hope that helps.

Have you downloaded 100% of the update now or not?

If you have a flashdrive, try downloading the firmware using a PC/Mac.

On the flashdrive, create a PS3 folder. Put the firmware in that folder. Then plug in the flashdrive to the PS3 and update.

Well I did it. I got a e-mail from sony support stating that I needed to use a flashdrive and plug the controller in to the PS3 while updating. (Do not use the control in wireless mode while updating) thanks

Default Unable to update

I just received a new 60g from amazon yesterday, and I am having the same problem. Running firmware 1.51, and networking & browsing works fine. Update sees 1.9 available via network any via my FAT32 USB drive, but in both cases it craps out between 60-70% and gives the 8002F997 error. I am using the controller cord, and have tried a system restore and HDD format, and get the same errors over and over again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

download it onto your PC and transfer via usb or recordable disc media.

...and if that doesnt work, have a friend download it onto their PC and try again...

I had a similar problem with the 1.82 update, and just waited for 1.90 and it worked. Dont know why it gives problems.

I have seen this when the firmware's first come out. I believe to many people are trying to download that the connection becomes really slow and ends up droppinng out. After a few days to a week it seems to clear up. ALso downloading from computer to a thumbdrive seems to be more successful perhaps because fewer people are doing it via cmputer.

It seems like the pc download completes just fine (about 119MB). I'll try a few more times before calling Sony. Thanks for the replies.

If you are going to redownload the firmware to your PC, make sure you clear the local cache to make sure it's actually pulling the file anew instead of pulling from the local cache.

Are you connected via wireless or are you plugged in?

I had a similar error pop up a lot with my wireless connection, I then hid the SSID name in my router settings and I haven't gotten it since.

I'm wireless, but I have the same error if I use a usb flash drive too.

I completed a hdd reformat, and tried again several times, including multiple flash drives, and in different usb ports, and over wireless, and still always crap out at 60-70% with the same error. time to call sony...

Problem solved: my evil router at home was corrupting the .pup file over both wireless and wired connections. Downloaded the file at work and the upgrade via usb stick was quick and easy!
