Question about 360 Shipped units.

When they say they have shipped 11,000,000 units, are they really adding the replacement units they're sending to the ring of death victims to that total?
So if a person buys one 360 and gets the "ring of death" and sends it back to M$, after he gets his replacement is M$ saying he's purchased two 360's?

i would think that they can not count replacement units as "sold," units, but who knows what m$ does anymore.

I do know that 11 million shipped doesnt mean they sold anywhere near that number of consoles.

The consoles that are sent back directly to people that had to send theres back probably dont count as shipped. I think "shipped" is really "shipped to retailers".

However, for those people that had their systems die after their warranty expired and had to re-buy their systems, yes they obviously count as having bought 2, even if they only use 1. Maybe thats why MS was so determined to build such a shoddy console.

As a MS spokesperson said, they have only sold 5.6 million units in North America. I don't know much about Europe, but the 360 is not big in Japan at all so I'm guessing the total number might be around 7 million for the whole world. It's certainly not 11 million though.

Shipped is exactly that... shipped. If it was in the factory and got shipped away from it... it's shipped.

Everything counts as 'shipped' once it leaves M$. This includes all warranty replacements, etc.

'Units sold" would indicate a more accurate number; however, M$ doesn't like to disclose that number. In fact, most companies don't like to... they like 'shipped' more for obvious reasons.

Does "shipped" include those that are used by BB, CC, etc. in their replacement programs that you pay like $80 or something for?

For the most part, the units being shipped back are refurbs, so they don't affect the numbers at all

Why would they count the same console twice? Most of the broken units sent back are refurbs thus already "shipped". I'd imagine the numbers from the replacement centers are not tallied with the new product shipped number.

Do you have any references to what you stated? If they are indeed counting shipping replacements I'd imagine their stockholders are mighty pissed. And each of these shipped consoles counts as a sale for MS as they have sold them to the retailer.

Based on Vgchartz, which tracks retailer's sales, not shipped units or replacement units, just sales-0.44M Japan, 6.96M America, 3.42M Others(Europe, Australia, New Zealand, etc)=10.82M sold.

These are the numbers the last two weeks.

The 360 as really pick up since the $50.00 price drop, while the PS3 has slowed down ( after the $100 drop, the PS3 was selling as many as 80,000 units a week for about a month).

Also expect the 360 to jump up in sales when Halo 3 comes out.
