Angry Faulty Blu-ray discs - Have you had any?

Only starting out with BD collection but of the 18 looked at from start to finish 2 have been faulty - over 10% which IMHO is unacceptable.

The first was the audio only "Pictures at an Exhibition" which refused to play at all and the second was discovered the other night - the opera "Romeo & Juliet" which froze at the end of an act, and I'm guessing that was when it was changing reading layers.

Both are region 0 so nothing to do with regional coding. One was purchased via a supplementary Amazon supplier in the USA and the other was from Amazon UK. In both cases there was absolutely no argument about a refund - Amazon were great and Amazon uk seemed genuinely concerned to hear this and indicated they would take steps to see if other copies had a similat problem.

I have had very very few DVD duds and can appreciate BD production is more complex but wonder if I'm Robinson Crusoe and have just been unlucky.

No Disc Problems Yet

I had a font error on a new release but then I installed the latest update for the Blu Ray player and it worked fine after that.

No problem here. Have you tried playing it on a different BD player? And do you have the latest firmware installed?

No other plsayer handy at the moment to test that out.

Yes latest firmware - but cannot see how that would make an unplayable disc playable or would avoid the freeze anyway.

Good responses. Looks like I am Robinson Crusoe and have been unlucky.

Knock on wood, but nothing yet. The only problem I've had was with my original household (not personal) Blu-ray player (Panasonic). I tried watching Wall-E but the sound would cut out for a few seconds every 10 minutes or so. Thinking it was the disc I then tried Crystal Skull on it and it had the same problem. Exchanged it the next day for a Sony and haven't experienced a problem since.

Hi John,

Try contacting Alexander J and check out his Insider Thread as he is the creator(?)/producer of the "Pictures At An Exhibition" BD. He is always very willing and helpful with anyone's product purchases. I'm sure he wouldn't mind a PM either.

i had one bluray out of 100 that gave me problems, stepbrothers. it kept freezing at a critical part of the movie then skipped to the next scene. the disc was perfect, no scratches or fingerprints. everytime i tested that scene it would skip. i just returned it for a new copy and everything is fine now.

Default Damn! Just found another faulty one!!!!

The modern ballet "Caravaggio" just arrived in the mail today.

The blurb on the back clearly states SOUND FORMAT PCM Stereo, dts-HD Master Audio 7.1.

BUT there is no option to select the audio. It only plays in stereo. ARTHAUS MUSIK need a rocket - how slack is that?

Yes I have been in touch with Alexanda anbd he is aware of this faulty disc but it has not been taken further. I was refunded so all I lost was postage.
