Default Help me find a Blu-ray movie for my dad!

"Whats the point in Blu-ray?"
"A waste of money"
"Surely DVD is fine enough, I'm pleased with DVD why can't everyone else be"
"This PS3 thing can play most things, why can't it play my old VCR's?"
"I don't care how many gigas it's got"
"Look, it's even got a rival, whats the point in buying them now"

Some of the many rants from the father!

I recently bought a PS3, and despite thinking it's a waste of money, he watches DVD's on it and wants me to buy the PlayTV next year.

Anyway to persuade my dad that Blu-ray is the future, it would be great if one of you could recommend me a film to buy him for him. I'm only a teenager, he was born in the mid-50's, so I'm not really sure what movies where "big" in the 70's and 80's - and I'm pretty sure that he has never liked a film since then.

Alot of the Blu-ray releases are from 2006/2007, but I think there are a few from that era. He hates all this "computer alteration" stuff that is in films nowadays. Some of the films he's got include The Sting and Airplane. Please help! Thanks.

If your dad likes comedy then maybe try Wild Hogs. I just bought it for my dad for his 70th birthday and he said he really enjoyed it. Plus the picture qualityis fantastic.

Best suggestion...find Blu-rays of the DVDs he is watching, if they are out there. Show him the difference between the two.

If they aren't out there, might list some of the ones he is watching so we might have a few suggestions.

I think he's going more for 'nostalgic' movies from older era's that his dad use to watch.

If for PQ than those are great choices!

Sorry guys but to demonstrate HD nothing beats nature scenes, and when it comes to nature scenes nothing beats Planet Earth. Trust me, he'll think hes looking out a window at some trees.

If you think he'll be bored, pick a scene with a chase like the wolf chase or pick the scene where the great white shark jumps out of the water to take out the seal that will put his jaw to the ground.

indeed. I've watched it on both 720 and 1080p sets. the 720 was quite an amazing jump from the dvd....1080p, to quote Donnie Brasco "Fuggetabouit"!

From what Paidgeek said on the Insiders Forum Lawrence Of Arabia should look very good, plus I've never met anyone who didn't like it. Also the Road Warrior looked very good.

Tekkonkinkreet will blow your mind!

Your dad might not like it since it's an animation and he sounds very closed minded. Is he from Alabama?
