Default Troy Blu-ray #90 vs HD-DVD version #440 on Amazon sales chart!

If this does not send a message to Warner Bros (along with the Smallville season 6 blu-ray version beating the HD-DVD version) I dont know what will!

Keep in mind that the theatrical version of Troy was released a while ago on HD DVD. Since most HD DVDers are cheap (all they talk about is $200 players...sorry I couldn't resist ), a majority will probably just keep the original cut of the film and come up with the excuse that the director's original cut/vision is not important, but that extras are where it's at.

Anyways, you do know Troy came out on HD-DVD a long time ago. Since this is a great film, almost every HD-DVD owners have this film. Why would they want to buy a second copy, which is nonsense? Therefore, no message was sent to WB.

This one is 30 minutes longer. But I can see why a lot of HD DVD owners will not be buying this as they already own it on HD DVD even though it's not the director's cut.

If I was a HD-DVD owner, I would have bought this film on the first day. And I would not buy this film again, even if this has extra 30 minutes in it.

Well, when Troy hd dvd came out it was a long long time ago and since then hd dvd standalone players numbers sold have swollen into the millions (according to predictions I saw from their backers) so these millions should be countering the non-countable PS3 non-standalone millions and we can see that in the 90 vs 440 numbers of the OP

I can see how the Amazon sales rank isn't surprising, so i agree with you there. However, do you imply that if troy--on BD--outsells its HD DVD counter-part; WB would not get the message (or should i say another message)?

Ok, would you buy it again and waste your money, if WB releases another edition of Troy on Blu-Ray next year.

No... and perhaps you didn't get the point of my post. I'm not talking about release day sales, I'm talking about total sales (of the title).

So, if HD DVD sold 100k copies of Troy and Troy BD sells 105k after a few months, it would be a clear indicator of what the consumers are choosing. (numbers are pure speculation of course)

if i was a fan of the film, and it was a solid release with more content (for example, 30 more minutes of footage), then yes.

also, if i was a fool who stupidly chose a dying format, and bought the original only to 'help' sales, then i would probably buy this one too, to help my dying format.
