Disney CEO criticizes HD DVD supporters
CEO of these princesses doesn't like HD DVD supporters What's New
By Henning Molbaek
FIRST PUBLISHED Sep 19, 2007
Disney CEO Bob Iger criticizes HD DVD supporters and says that it was "easy money" that led some studios to only support HD DVD.

"We believe it's a no-brainer ... that the industry should be behind Blu-ray," Iger told investors at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference.

"I think those studios were likely taking easy money. We haven't taken any money because we believe it," he said.

Our opinion on this:
Disney really has to watch its comments and its next steps. That Disney will talk negatively about studios he doesn't even want to mention by name is one thing and very unprofessional: Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house. A few examples of what Blu-ray did: Sony bought MGM shares before the launch of Blu-ray. This ultimately led to their having the final say in what MGM chose to support. They also refused to work with the DVD Forum and did not sit down to talk before they had finished Blu-ray, basically saying to take what we have made or have a format war. Also, a funny thing is that the interactive features found in the HD DVD format were co-developed by Microsoft and Disney, but suddenly Disney decided to drop it and support Blu-ray. Why? Who knows, but my guess is that it had something to do with money. The point is that companies do what they find best for their company, and Disney has done the same a number times. Hey, Bob, if you want Paramount and DreamWorks to support Blu-ray again, why don't you do the same and go neutral with support of HD DVD? Oh, and lastly, if you have to talk bad about others to justify your own decision to investors, isn't that worse than taking money?

It is good to note that HD DVD is a "proud" sponsor of DVDTOWN. So, that little comment below is just their way of protecting their meal ticket.

The most important is that they supported BD without incentives (same as fox)
I supported BD mainly because Disney support it. If they were HD DVD I might be neutral. The other reason is that I'm PS fanboy.

Thumbs up Disney´s little statement to the Paramount/Dreamworks switch...

Hi,

I´ve read an short article today about Disney´s statement to the switch decision of Paramount/Dreamworks.

Here we go...:

Bob Iger (chief executive) Disney:

Quote:
"In my opinion, all these studios wanted to make fast money.
This step could cost them partially the future...

We stay behind Blu-ray, and haven´t received any money for this."
in fact,

Disney = Men´s of Honor

Paramount/Dreamworks = ( no comment )

I like Disney even more now

DVD is a biased site run by paid HD-DVD shills. Awhile back they posted some PoS article claiming blu-ray wasn't safe b/c. later players would have PiP and online functions, but then claimed HD-DVD was safe since it's specs were supposedly final. Then, when Toshiba announced their 3-layer disc, DVD Town announced it with no added criticism or claims of unfinished specs.

They're part of the FUD machine, and this article is further proof.

Agreed 100%. You took the words right out of my mouth. I can't get over how many times I have seen a site ripping up BD for "unfinished specs" and championing the other side for doing the same with TL51. Bigots, that's all you can say, just bigots!

Who cares why Disney supports BD.
All that matters is they support the superior format with higher bandwidth, bit rates and actual HD audio on players that actually function.
hd dud is the exact opposite of BD on all of the above and should never have launched its crappy players or its lousy low bit rate/bandwidth HD lite format to begin with.

May hd dud burn in h*ll.

Actually, I've been visiting this site long before the hi-def formats ever arrived and I used to get pretty good news and reviews from them. Now, for the last year and a half, since the release of HD DVD, they've been promoting that format incessantly. Their bias is undeniable, but at least they don't hide the fact that they're sponsored by "the look and sound of perfect".

You guys might want to check out DVDTown/HDDVD.org's review of Memoirs of a Geisha and Underworld on Blu-ray. They might be a biased site, but both movies got a 10/10 for PQ/SQ.

Didn't he say this awhile ago and it was the already the subject of posts. The only difference is this one includes a "warning" from a HD-DVD site.

Wicky already locked this down once recently....

Edit: this is the orignal thread. It's not hard to find things. Search on a unique word and bingo....
