Default Suncoast story I thought I would share...

At a mall close to where I live, in Cincinnati, OH, there's a Suncoast where I stop to occasionally browse for used BDs. Today, the Blu-ray section was moved to the front of the store and given an entire row of shelving units. The shelves for high definition movies used to be split between Blu-ray and HD DVD.

I asked the manager if they had removed their HD DVD stock, and she said, "No, but they're all in the back of the store now near the action figures, book-ended, because they never sell and sales have dropped even lower after the WB announcement. Almost all of our high-def movie buyers buy Blu-ray."

I realize this is anecdotal evidence, but it shows me that there are retailers already very unhappy with the HD DVD format.

Thats good news.
HDDVD in the back where they belong.

On a side note Suncoast is one of the most expensive store you can goto to by any types of movies.

They sell everything at the MSRP, new, but they have a wider selection than BB or CC. I get used movies there, though. I've picked up a few used for $14 or less.

Toshiba needs to learn what the Studio's with half a brain already know. "Bargain Basement Player" buyers are not Movie buyers. To them it's cheap and has "free" movies. "Free" is big with this crowd. They will brag to all their friends about the "deal" they got on an "HD movie player" but not get around to buying enough movies to support the format. The majority of this group also buys last years model TV on close out too. They won't reinvest in the small investment they made in the player. They certainly won't pay more than a few dollars more than the same movie on simple DVD. Good enough and it's cheaper is the rally cry for this group. HD-Dead Movie sales figures support that premise.

All of the Suncoast stores around here closed some time ago. They were always overpriced.
