In a society where giant blue smurfs, emo kid wizards, pretty shirtless vampires & whatever flash-in-the-pan cgi kiddy movies seem to be the only flicks which soak up hundreds of millions at the box office: Pure unadulterated no holds barred films like the Crank series are definitely the hidden gems of movie going mantertainment and should be preserved at the Library Of Congress.

A Third "Crank" Is On The Way
Mark Nevedine tells Empire that not only is a third "Crank" film being planned, they're trying to get "Luther" and "Thor" star Idris Elba in the next one.
Nevedine and his cohort Brian Taylor recently shot "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" with Elba. Nevedine says "we joking-but-not-quite-jokingly joked about that with Idris while we were over in Romania and Turkey. Just trying to figure out a way of getting him into Crank 3. There are so many different ways that Crank 3 could go. We’ve been talking about the top 50 ideas we what to do for Crank 3, so we’re just trying to pair them down. By the way, Crank 3 is going to happen, the studios are really excited about it – it’s just all about timing."
Despite the last film's ending, Jason Statham will be back as Chev Chellios in this outing. "With Crank, basically, you insert another quarter and you play the game again. It’s kind of like what thrills me and Brian, it’s whatever we feel like doing there in the moment, whatever we wanna do, we just do and make it happen. The important thing is what powers Chev. It was adrenaline that kept him alive in the first one, it was electricity in the second one, you know, it’s all about what will keep him alive in the third one. It’s just fun slinging those ideas around."

This is pulled & edited a bit from an old post of mine. Crank 2 still ranks near the top of most fun I've ever had at a movie theater. That was also my first time going to one of those Brew & View places.

People don't realize the Crank films are not meant to be taken seriously at all. They're blatantly tongue-in-cheek and some of the best "guy movies" ever. Over-the-top, violent, hot women, crazy action. What's not to like? Also, when watching the sequel in the theater with the gf of that time, I noticed the crowd was one of the most diverse groups of people I've ever viewed a movie with (a lot of older couples to). This is also one of the few films that everyone was laughing & cheering (maybe is was the alcohol? lol) for the majority of the film. I was expecting the total opposite from the women in the audience, as this is the farthest thing from feminine you can get.

For all the recent negative nerd flack the writer/director team of Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor are receiving for the upcoming Ghost Rider movie, I love the first two Crank movies. Can't wait to see what crazy scheme they concoct for this one.
