Thumbs up Wal*Mart says it WON'T carry the $199 Chinese Venturer HD DVD player!

“We have no plans to have Venturer in our stores this holiday,”

I stopped going into Kmart since about 1994. Now when I walk into one I almost feel like I need a tetanus shot and a can of raid. (I don't know why either? )

Ultimate Electronics’ director of merchandising for video Matt Duda is considering stocking the Venturer HD DVD player...

“I have never heard of Venturer,” admits Duda. “If the price [similarly drops] for a tier-one brand, that will be more compelling.”
That's a great vote of confidence!

When will we see the press release from Cracker Jack confirming they ordered the players?

"Man, I just spent $2500 on a TV, let me get the cheapest, no-name brand player to go with it!"

Somehow I don't see that working out. Who's going to buy a Sony, Samsung, Toshiba (hey, I still like Toshiba's stuff, save HD DVD) TV, and then buy a Venturer HD DVD player. You're not exactly catering the format to poor people. That's why I never understood why price was the huge factor people make it out to be. To even get any use out of either format requires a significant commitment of funds. It's not like DVD where they looked better on ANY TV with the cables that came in the box.

This seems on par with Zohn's comments during EMA . . . borderline mentally retarded. So was everyone on that panel, actually . . . those videos are always good for a laugh

I was going to post that this is GREAT news for those guys selling speakers out of vans in parking lots as they can add an HD DVD player to their "inventory"...but that is the best!

Sadly - K-Mart is still kicking around. There are only a couple stores open down here and frankly, I have not step foot in one in over 13 years. Don't plan on it either.

Same goes for Wal-Mart. Talk about needing a can of Raid. Try a case load!

Also, someone please tell me how the hell 199 is better than 200? Oh, wooopeee! We have a sub 200 dollar player. Oh, its only 199 instead! HOLLY COW!!! I SAVED A DOLLAR! Please.

The Kmart here in my neck of the woods considers DVD high-end, carrying very few and only high-profile titles. No joke.

Isn't K-Mart dead everywhere? I have not seen a functional K Mart since I was a kid.

Remember people, from 10 feet away, and hooked up to an Emerson 20 inch with red yellow and white cables....HD-DVD looks just the same as it does on a 42 inch plasma via HDMI

The only one we have in Indy that I can recall is on Pendleton Pike. It even has a Little Ceaser's still!

Since Wally World isn;t gonna sell that player does that mean they are not gonna support HD DVD or just that player? Back in the good ol days Wally world just stocked quality items, they may see that this player is probably made out of mostly card board and duct tape. What happened? anyway this might be a sign is to what they are going to do. if they re gonna drop HD all together GO WALLY-WORLD! support BD!

Yes, it's true. Venturer HD DVD players will be available at participating Pet Smart locations, right next to the cat litter and hairball remedy.
