Default New Blu-ray owner movie question?

I just bought a PS3 and I own 1080P Panasonic Plasma. I want to know what is the best visually looking blu-ray movie out now that I can show off to my friends and have their jaws hit the floor in amazement. I'm looking for a movie that will fill the entire wide screen with no black bars and one with black bars. Any movie recommendations would be helpful. Thanks

There are a few... The Day After Tomorrow got an awesome review, Pearl Harbor, Casino Royale, The Departed... Blu-ray rocks. Welcome to the "good side of the force". I'm not sure about black bars though... I don't have a problem with them considering it's OAR... I take what they give ...

I don't know about the black bars, but Planet Earth is amazing to watch. Also 300 is a great way to show off your system.

Some of the best pq I've seen in some of the films are the fountain its don't have those black bars. I also liked pirates of the caribbean and troy.

PQ = picture quality

Plant Earth is unreal in some parts because of the different colors on the screen and there is no black bars full screen too. Lets just say I know someone one that said that Hd is just a scam, just another way to get people to buy a new tv, well i showed off planet earth in 1080p and he's in now.

The Fountain is not an impressive one to show off I have seen it and it was lacking. Plus how does the black bars affect the image quality, it doesn't.

Apocalypto, Planet Earth. I thought that Ultraviolet was pretty good looking. Pearl Harbor if you have a surround sound. There are actually some scenes in Babel that are pretty impressive.

I didn't say black bars affected picture quality. I was just pointing out the film because he was inquiring which films didn't have the black bars on the top or on the bottom. Thats all.

I was just about to post Crank! Definitely, the movie was shot on HD cameras so there is absolutely no film grain...if that sort of thing bothers you.

I really liked 'The Descent' (among others, but wanted to mention this one) in terms of audio and picture quality. But there is a bunch of great movies out there, and a lot were already named.

Here's one I liked.

Curse of the Golden Flower.

Why? The colors. They were fantastic.

And I loved the movie.

I bought Underworld (first one) this past weekend and watched it Saturday night. Very impressive in both PQ and AQ (uncompressed sound rocks, literally too).

I also agree that Crank has great PQ. If you want to show off some impressive colors, go with Curse of the Golden Flower like the recent poster.

If you really want to show off go with Planet Earth or Galapagos, both are visually stunning, I just watched Galapagos and breath taking is all I can say.

Thumbs up Ultraviolet!!!

I just watched this movie and I was blown away by the PQ (this is what people refer on this form as Picture Quality).

I noticed that when I watch Blu-Ray movies that the story really doesn’t matter as much. I would rate the story as an C+, but the cinematography an A+, so you can say it is a B+ movie and worth owning.

Funny how much Blu-Ray can enhance the enjoyment of a movie.

All of the movies listed here are great choices. A important question though and it will make your system complete, what kind of sound system do you have?

Great Player, Great Screen, but you need the sound to complete the impressive show.

I was wondering this myself, what sound setup do you have? I noticed it wasn't listed. If you really want to give a wow factor to your friends don't forget about a good audio setup. Playing something with uncompressed audio on a surround set up would really floor them. As for my own personal recommendations, I'd say the following: The Patriot(may be a little long but a great movie), POTC 1 or 2--Especially Dead Man's Chest, the outdoor scenes are unreal as is the audio on both of these, Underworld, Terminator 2(I thought this was a good one IMO), Kingdom Of Heaven, Halloween(just released yesterday), We Were Soldiers. I could go on and on. There are MANY great titles to choose from.
