Welcome to the family!!! Geez, where to begin with movies? Well, pretty much any of Disney's releases (all 3 POTC movies, Cars, Rattatoulle, Pixar shorts) are fantastic, also Underworld Evolution, Casino Royale, and many many others. Check out the Reviews of recent releases on the home page, and search for other reviews to find other great movies. There's tons out there that will showcase your PS3's capabilities, good luck!

im also new to blu, my first being 300 which now i love but the grain thing threw me for a loop and had me back at best buy that night trying to find out why my tv looked like it had sand in the picture. the grain is like black bars and fades out of your mind fast once the movie picks up...

im not big into animation but to see the quality and color your tv and blu can do ild say check out disneys cars. even if you dont like the movie the quality will be sure to blow you away.

others ive really thought were done well...

casino royale
underworld
weeds...tv series and varies a little episode to episode but overall great.
flags of our fathers
i was impressed with fifth element because of how dated it is and how amazing the quality looked.

what i plan to checkout soon are....

full metal jacket
total recall....a must for any movie collection
and crank which i read was filmed in HD so im interested to see how that looks.

The Condemned looks amazing

Blade Runner, for being 25 years old, looks amazing as well.

Default Not very impressed!

I'm a newb to blu ray for sure but as an AV freak I have to say I am not impressed. In fact dissapointed. I was not about to go out and spend damn near $500 for a blu ray until I knew exactly what I was buying, so I didn't. I got a PS3 for christmas which has one so I thought I was about to be blown away be the incredible picture and sound on my new 50" HDTV I was not to say the least, and the person I hyped it up to wasn't either. They said they don't even notice that much difference. The sound is great and the picture clarity is sharp at least the viewable area I saw. Those HUGE black bars though are less to be desired.

I guess I just assummed like most that full 1080i would be full screen. That is not the case at all. I hate watching movies with black bars especially as bad as they are on the Blu Ray. Everone talks about the OAR. I understand what it is and all but if I walked into a movie theatre and shelled out my nine bucks to watch a movie and saw black bars on 2/3 of the screen. I would walk right out and demand my money back. If the director intended you to see in the Cinema scope 2:35:1 ratio then why don't you see the black bars at the theatre?

I bought a Wide Screen HDTV to hopefully put an end to all this but it has been worse than DVD. Which at least says blatantly Full screen edition right on top of the case. I paid over $2000 for the TV I want to use the whole damn screen like it was intended. I know I can switch it to another aspect ratio but it degrades the picture quality by stretching it. I cannot undersatnd why there isn't more fullscreen 16:9 Blu Ray movies. I can't see how much harder it would be to do so.

I can handle a small bar at top and bottom like maybe 5% of the screen but anymore than that is sooo annoying. Maybe it's just me but I want fullscreen at it's best and Blu Ray did not deliver. I guess I just had to vent and I hope someone could help shed a little light on this subject, and please don't tell me about OAR I know what it is. (I saw full screen Blu rays played at Best Buy and I was impressed big time so I know they exsist) Tell me about where I find more full screen Blu Rays then I'll be impressed.

Perhaps because the projector is adjusted to the point where, the "black bars" are precisely "off screen..."

That is because the theater has something called a "CURTAIN" that they drop around the image so you you don't see a white screen or the black bars. You may be an AV freak, but by this post you are not a movie freak. Movie freaks want to see what the director filmed and how it was shown in theaters. What you get from blu-ray is the same aspect. Full Screen is an abomination to movies since all it does is eliminate part of the image that you should be viewing.

If you want to see the most incredible colours get The House of the Flying Daggers. I would have never thought it would be possible to view such an amazing video in the comfort of my own home.

Hmm, I'll have to check that out. I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but Folklore has great colors to it as well. It's an RPG and only runs at 720p but the colors in the "netherworld" are beautiful.
