Onkyo 605 big and hot? - Blu-ray Forum

i wanna get an onkyo605 for my ps3 and blu-ray movies but i think its to big, i have this tv entertainment center http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1175389476893 and i dont know if it will fit,i recently went into a circuitcity to look at one and dam that thing is huge. and another thing is the heat, i read on cnet reviews one person said it gets to hot real hot, now im having second thougts about getting one.is there another reciever that has the same specs like onkyo 605 if not a better one? and a little smaller? i dont mind spending anothere 150 to 200$ on a good reciever thanks.

The 605 is an excellent receiver is comparably its really not that big and it makes just as much heat as any other receiver, if not less. Its pushing 90watts to each of the 7 speakers, you got to keep that in mind. The 605 is a "normal" sized receiver as the 805 is much larger.

Well, as far is the size is concerned, it is not any bigger than my Pioneer receiver or many other quality receivers for that matter. On the other hand, I have also read several reviews regarding this unit stating that it gives off a lot more heat than usual. This seems to be a common symptom with Onkyo receivers though. This may or may not become a problem in the long run. I don't really know because I've never owned an Onkyo receiver in the past.

I have been checking out receivers also I was thinking the same thing but I have checked all over and I keep goin back to the 605...its bulky but not as bulky as the 805 or the yamaha and pioneer..

I don't mind the hotness when it's on, but when it's on standby, it's very very warm....warmer than when my sony is always on. This calls for onkyo to use new parts.

I have the same problem. My Onkyo 875 is HUGE and gets so hot that after a while the sound completely CUTS OFF. I have to turn it off and let it cool off. What i am currently doing is turning on a big fan i have over it everytime i turn it on and it stays cool that way and doesn't cut off the sound. The problem is that it gets too cold in here, even on the low fan setting. Plus having that on everyday jacks up the light bill. I called a certified Onkyo tech and they were telling me to check to see if the speaker wires were touching which they weren't. It has to be some internal issue.

Not only does it get very hot and cut off, but i notice with this receiver that the signal takes a LONG time to kick in. For example; let's say i'm watching a tv program which is in pcm and then a commercial comes on and it's DD, the thing takes long enough to change the signal to voice it out to the point that u miss hearing the beginning part of what the commercial says. I found this to be a BIG problem when i was playing God of War 2 this past week when i missed the first part of the ending because of that crap.

And in my opinion the 805 is a behemoth of a receiver compared to its tiny 605 brother.

So If I can make the 805 fit in my stand...you can certainly make the 605 fit.

PS First time I ever handled such a heavy receiver (the 805)...weighs about 50lbs. So far my stand is still standing

I wouldn't recommend it. It needs space to vent. I use one of those chrome metal shelving you find in restaurants. You can get them at Costco, Lowes, or Home Depot.

I thought about that one for the extra HDMI input........ Cable+PS3+Toshiba HDA2. I paid $350 for my 605. I did not think one extra HDMI was worth $300+. The 705 is THX. However, I did not find it necessary with the new HD Audio options available. My two cents. Up to you.

FYI. Still no Toshiba. If warner just gives BB, Matrix, V, and Posiedon I will be happy. The T3 announcement gives me hope for a December-January surprise.
