Default Batman - Gotham Knight not so good. :(

Batman: Gotham Knight Blu-ray

I was lucky enough to preview the film. I say this only because I can now save my money and cancel my pre-order. Overall I was highly disappointed with this release (which was shorter than I had expected at 1 hour and 15 minutes including credits). Most of the vignettes were dull and uninspired. The best one was only moderately interesting. If you're expecting a connection to any of the live action films you'll be highly disappointed. This is more along the lines of the Animatrix, but worse..

Also during dark scenes there were weird blinking streaks of pixels. However, the copy I viewed was standard-def, but the problems with the transfer seemed like they could possibly persist on the blu-ray version as well.

I'm a huge Batman fan and this was just not there. It seemed out of touch with the things that make Batman interesting. It felt highly influenced by the east, but the problem is that this is not a eastern superhero. These vignettes felt lost in translation. For those who still aren't convinced by my mini review I'd highly suggest a rental before a purchase..

Perhaps, maybe you don't like the style of Japanese animation?? Maybe it threw you off a bit?

Gotta say the animation looks pretty good. It's a different take on the Batman Mythology with an eastern flair. Waiting for my copy to arrive to judge it for myself.

I watched it tonight and I have to say that I enjoyed it.

I knew already that it wasnt one big movie, but different takes from creators about the Batman universe. The one where he fights the Russian on the dock was my least favorite. I didnt like how Batman or Bruce was drawn. I think they were trying to make Bruce a Peter Parker type. He looked 12 years old

It also was much more violent than I expected. It had
[Show spoiler] a decapitation and shows a guy getting shot in the middle of the head with blood squirting out

If your a big Batman fan (obviously like myself), I definately recommend picking it up.

Nope I'm a fan of anime, the animation itself wasn't the problem for me. It was the story telling.

Here's a clip.

I 'downloaded' it, because I had heard some really bad reviews. Ended up liking it more than I thought, and will be keeping my preorder.

I thought 1 or two of the vignettes were dull and boring, but overall, the good parts made up for the bad.

I am just salivating for the Animated Series. Love those shows. By the way to the OP, to say that the picture quality was bad and that you were disappointed even though it was on SD is a pretty silly little statement.

Thanks OP, I was really pshcyed for this becuase I was under the impression it was supposed to bridge the gap between Batman Begins and Dark Knight. I was debating on buying it, but will just rent it sometime.

I am a huge Batman fan and I have to say after watching Batman: The Gotham Knight, I was pretty dissappointed. It is suppose to be a tie-in with batman begins and the dark knight but it just wasn't nearly as good as star wars clone wars vol. 1-2 or the animatrix which were also animation tie-ins between two movies. I felt that the story was mediocre at best for the gotham knight and altough I did like the animation... I also felt the films were too short and lacked the action Batman and Japanese animation fused together deserves. If you're like me then you would probably expect a lot from this title but unfortunetly it just isn't there. Sorry batfans but I really think you should give it a rent before deciding to pick this one up.

Not really... Just because we all live in a land of high def doesn't mean that SD dvds are impervious to observation. You can still tell a whole lot about a transfer when seeing it on SD. As I said "the copy I viewed was standard-def, but the problems with the transfer seemed like they could possibly persist on the blu-ray version as well." There's a reason there are DVD review sites.. But yeah what a silly little statement..

You could say this about any movie a person doesn't like. It's kind of a worthless statement. Considering that my only expectation was for it to be good. Not great.

I do not agree.
It is very possible to dislike a movie without it tying into pre-existing expectations.
On the other hand, by your own words it seems like you expected it to be a tie in between the movies and you just expected something else out of the product where as if it had come out earlier this year and the Dark Knight was not in everyone's minds then you could see it and appreciate it as a stand alone Batman release.
But it is all moot, people can like or dislike whatever they want though I do tend to have more desire to call out those who feel the need to speak for others.
