I have the Samsung BD1200.

I went with the standalone because I was concerned about wearing out the disc drive on a PS3 with the obscene amount of usage I'd put it through (with using it for gaming AND movie watching).

However, I fully intend on getting myself a PS3 sometime in the near future anyways. Most likely sometime this holiday season.

Yeah...I got into Blu-Ray because of the Ps3, but now I use it more for movies than I do for gaming. I've got 25 BD's vs. 2 ps3 games...although recently the BD count has been growing about 1 or 2 per week. It took me about 4 months to realize that I want to have a collection of BD's because I bought my first HDTV in February.

I use my Ps3 almost exclusively for movie watching.

I only have 1 game and it's NCAA Football 2008. I'm sure I'll buy others including FIFA 2008 and Pro Evolution Soccer.

Mainly though, it's for movie watching.

i also got ps3 for movies. but ocasionally, it is extremely good experience to play something like resistance: fom, heavenly sword (just now) and ratchet and ut3 soon in the future...
ps3 is a way to go, if any gaming (plus music, photos, net...) means anything to U...
i was a pc&mac junkee with 8 hrs or more daily, but since ps3 and hdtv came, i use pc about 2 hrs a day and mac is rarely on

The PS3 was a perfect fit for me. I wanted a Blu-Ray player first, but I also wanted a PS3. Even if it hadn't been for the built-in BD Drive, I would've bought it. This way I was able to save myself the cost of buying a standalone player on top of a PS3. Worked out like a charm.

As one of the above posters said, I use my PS3 mainly for movies, but playing games from time to time is absolutely great.

Yep, why hunch over a PC when you can sit back and relax on a sofa with big screen HDTV and stream music into your a/v system as well..changing my lifestyle..

I had similar poll a few weeks ago. Much to my shock PS3 really seems to be carrying Blu-ray to victory.

A stand alone unit really fit better into my entertainment center. Not to mention it is easier for everyone to use on their own. I don't want to train everyone how to play blu on a PS3 and get bothered for that nonsense.

I also prefer a stand alone player for the "timeless" astetic effect. PS3's will eventually be the "old thing" and people might quip, "You still playing blu-ray on that piece of old junk?" Not as many people recognize 1st and 2nd gen players. They blend in for years to come without looking dated as soon.

Now, here is what I want to know. What are the age range of players using PS3 for BD? I suspect it is the younger to middle aged crowd.

Ps3 for me. Initially bought Resistance and Casino Royale in the middle of July. Now I have only 3 games but 41 bds and counting. Would rather pay $500 to get the option to play movies AND games than just movies only for the same price. Just my 2 cents...

PS3 for me. I like games and movies. I am basically a 31 year old kid. It has too many options to pass up for a basic stand alone for a similar price.

I went with the PS3 strictly for watching BD's, but I wish the fan wasn't so loud when it is upscaling standard dvd's.
