Default Replacing PS3 with standalone

Just wondering how many people have replaced their PS3 with a standalone and why? Which standalone? If replaced a 'Fat' PS3 with a 'Slim" check no.

I am planning on getting a standalone.

Replaced my fat PS3 with a multiregion modded Panasonic.
Why? to pass bitstreamed audio and for multiregion DVD and blu-ray playback. I would never again buy a player that wasn't multiregion.

Do you find a difference between Bitstreaming and LPCMing?

I need a player that can handle multiregion DVD too. I have 1/2 R1 and half R3. That is one of the things I hate about my PS3.

My PS3 got the yellow light of death after 2.5 years. Bought new for $600.00 (not a good investment considering life of unit). I'm going with the new Oppo SE for multiple reasons. SACD, DVD-A, CD, DVD, Blu-ray, region free, customer service, extended warranty. I don't trust Sony anymore with their products. I also purchased a Sony DA5200 ES receiver at $1,500.00 when that came out and got burned on that one as well. They promptly released the DA5300 ES soon afterwards. I had similar experiences with Philips in the past so I exclude Sony and Philips from my future purchases.

I recently replaced my fatty PS3 with a Sony BDP-S360. Reasoning behind this is to extend the life my PS3, to Bitstream Audio, and to reduce the fan noise that my PS3 was putting out.

So far I am happy with my choice and do not regret it one bit....plus I got a good deal on the Sony stand-alone for $109 on BF.

+1 I did the exact same thing for the same reasons. I'm a heavy gamer and I didn't want to burn out my PS3 by playing and watching movies all the time. So far the bitstreaming is superb, PQ is outstanding and the absence of noise is heaven on the ears.

Well I don't plan on replacing my PS3 anytime soon, but I am hoping of buying the family a 5.1 home cinema kit. The PS3 in my room is still gonna be my movie and gaming combo for probably a long time.

I replaced my PS3's BD playing duties first with a Panasonic BD-35 since it came free with my plasma TV. I have since upgrade to the Oppo BD player so I could get rid of my standalone SA-CD/DVD-A player.

+2 Exactly the same reason for me. The loud fan and the fact it ran so hot was enough for me to now have the PS3 as a backup. I would have preferred the Oppo, but the $400 price difference is too much to overcome.

On the bad side, I bricked it tonight doing a firmware update. Sony says that it is still under the 30 day warranty and firmware updates are covered in it. Mine came loaded with version .002 and I was going to .007.

Default Ps3

I still have my PS3 as well as my Panasonic BD35. I use the Panny for Blu's and DVD's. Games are played on the PS3 but i am never getting rid of it. Its the only thing out there that can receive a firmwrae update and it will have the latest features(BD-Live, Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, 3D,etc...)

I started with a PS3 then got a Sony BDP-S350. I just sold my S350 and will replace that with a ps3 slim. Now that the slim can bitstream and stream netflix itll be a huge bonus. That plus sharing a ps3 with a 9yr old can get hectic so having 2 ps3s will be really nice.

I just bought the Oppo SE with the NuForce mod, but really this won't replace my PS3. I still plan to keep it in my system for gaming and comparison purposes.

I changed from the fat ps3 80gb last gen series model, to a BDP-S350, for the bitstreaming when I changed my amp, then to a slim ps3 since it did everything teh 350 did better and faster, and no thats not a plug for sony it just is what it is.

Yes, replaced it with the Oppo BDP-83 because my 40gb PS3 died on me ( Bluray laser failure) after 16 months. So I fixed it myself then sold it to cover part of the cost of the Oppo.
