PS3 Is a Standalone!!!!

I know this has been talked about before but personally it bothers me that MS and Toshity keep brining it up. saying:
-that it shouldn't be counted in player sales
-that the attachment rate is low.

Don't know how you guys feel about this issue. I use my PS3 for both games and movies but I definately use it for movies more. not because it doesn't have that many or that great of games. Because it does have some great games. But becuase I love to watch movies. In addition I have already given 2 PS3s as presents to people who use them only for Bluray!

I realize that the attachment rate for PS3 is probably low but when you look at it overall it is a positive for blu-ray as it is easy to get growth.. BTW if you see the new PS3 adds I think they are trying to educate people to move the attachment rate higher as well.

Me too. I hardly ever play video games, but I read that the PS3 was the fastest, most inexpensive blu-ray player, with built in wifi, next gen gaming, and easily upgradeable.

What I don't understand is how they can say the PS3 isn't a standalone player, but then turn-around and say that HD DVD has a 4-1 attach rate over Blu-Ray. If they didn't count the PS3, isn't the Blu-Ray attach rate MANY times larger then HD DVD seeing as how Blu-Ray has LESS standalones, but twice as many movies sold.

That math also doesn't make sense to me. Then again I've learned a lot about math since this format war began. Eg: 30 > 50, 190,000 = 115,000, etc...

It's all a number's game.
What counts is software sales. period.
The rest can be manipulated to appear however you want it to.
This is done by both sides.
Can't really do anything about the software numbers.

Why would they want to include it? It would skew their numbers even more towards Blu-ray and would really screw up the BS they are already shoveling to consumers.

When you are desperate, you cheat and lie by telling the world the half truth and see you can get away with. Pretending PS3 is not existing as a BD player is just one trick they play. BDA has mostly been sitting on their hands and not fighting back hard. The earlier buyers of PS3 are mostly for BD playing since it was the cheapest first generation BD player. There were not many PS3 games then but it still sold 4 million units in 6 months.
