Default People buying Blu-ray w/o HDTV!!!

I was buying some Blu-Rays at the Best Buy sale and there were people there who had a PS3 but no HDTV (I like to talk to strangers alot). I guess these people could be called "useful idiots" by supporting Blu-Ray and them not getting the full value.

I wonder how many PS3 owners are buying Blu-Ray just to have the movies even w/o a HDTV and how these people affect overall sales for Blu-ray? I'm sure they are not the only ones!!!

hahaha.... you called me "useful idiot" I used to. I know HDTV, but not interested since I know I will play PS2 games only. I already sided with BD since Disney announcement, and after I got my first BD, I started to look at computer monitor, and got one for £100+. Now, I am running 720p. Blu-ray and games are WOW

Did you guys wait until you bought a car to get your drivers license?

These people don't have to be labeled idiots, maybe one day they will own an HDTV.

Let's not beat up on our allies who are helping us to win this format war.

Think big picture, speak little.

Did it ever cross your mind that this so called "usefull idiots" could be buying future proof movies for there PS3 because there shure theyll be buying an HD TV in the future?

Ive read in a few forums about people that have dozens of Blu-ray movies yet have no Blu-ray player, they said they bought the movies because they were shure they would buy a blu ray player in the future and didnt want to miss out on the sweet deals Blu has been getting lately, can you also call this people idiots or wise thinkers?

We don't know what the OP's conversation entailed, but there are people who are simply future-proofing their movie player purchase. They might be buying the player they can afford now, with plans to purchase an HD-TV when they can. So they're not all idiots.

like me, for example (but not really for price - I paid twice the price of PS3). It was to secure ability to play BD and Final Fantasy XIII

I agree, nothing wrong with people buying them, maybe they are planning on a HDTV down the road.

*shrug* They can watch and enjoy the movies - who are you to rain on their parade? Even if they don't have a HDTV, the audio alone is an upgrade over DVD, and by buying BDs now instead of DVDs they don't have to double-dip later. It's a win-win.

Well you have people out there who still ask(my parents) if you can play a Blu Ray movie in a regular dvd player. Maybe they're others out there who actually do buy the dics and try to play them on a regular dvd player or regular tube tv.

Angry Hey!

I don't usually get pissy, but

LISTEN UP, JERK!!

Useful idiot my a$$. I have a PS3 and I buy Blu-ray for many reasons - and here's one you might not have thought of:

The movies even look better on Non-HD TV's too !!!

One of my first purchases was The Last Waltz - a concert film that's about 20 years old. I was doing an internship out of town in an apartment furnished with a 13" tube TV. I played both my existing DVD copy AND the Blu-Ray copy ON A 13" TUBE TV!!! and you could STILL tell a difference!!!

Thank you for assuming, you know what they say about folks that do that.

Oh wait, I guess I'm assuming you know what they say...

Anyways, the Blu-Rays I buy of DVD's I already own look better on my 27" color RCA Tube. Within a year, I'm looking to have a 46-52 XBR4. Well mein froind - the improvements I already see will do me just fine until I can afford the luxury of Hi-Def.

Thanks and goodnight...

I don't have HDTV. but I am capable of 720p via my PC monitor.
I am considering Bravia 26 inch (don't like big-sized television)

I'm sure he meant it in a nice way.

I asked this question a while back. But I KNOW I never called them idiots for doing so. A small select number of users do it. They still get the benefit obviously on SD TV. It's a wise Entertainment investment now and for later. These guys are owed an apology by anyone who thought less of them.

The way I see it is if someone is buying Blu-ray it is because they appreciate the quality and performance of the format. No matter what you view it on.

So thank you for your support!

I picked up several BDs on sales, and thru gifts, before I got my PS3 as a BD player. Yep, I already had an HDTV and was enjoying OTA & Dish HD. I knew I'd be getting a BD player, just not which one or when.
