Default TF Movie (1986) on Blu-ray Review

Material used : 92 inch screen, Sanyo Z4 720p projector, 5.1 sound system.

Transformers started as an TV serie comic, than the Animated film came out in 1986 and when i was young, i was crazy about it. Yes buy today standard it's cheezy (music and reply) but it still less akward that Torino Role in the Live Action Movie

I never saw i 2D animated film in HD before, not from 1980's ... i own the Metronome version DVD of that movie. This version was the best... until now..

The Past 10 DVD always have problems, the Sony verison is downright ulgy with soft focus everywhere, the Seville (the first version) was transfered from an Analog Source, the Rhino wasn't bad and multiple version of Metronome dvd were good until the latest version Metronome done on DVD. All version have macroblock on the and that was the biggest problems. 2D animation might sound easy to transfert but with all those black outline, flash, film grain, no DVD version ever was without it and MASSIVELY in some section.

The new version on BluRay exibit 0 macroblocking with bitrate that goes upto 41mbits during flash sequence, it's been transfered into MPEG2.

The Brithness is different than the latest Metronome version, it way better now, the latest dvd was too black and the BluRay seemed perfect to me.

The difference in sharpness is tremendous when comparing different version. The best scene are at the start of the movie when the first planet is eaten. You have a long shop hand drawn and the DVD is so aliased during that scene it make me puke while the BluRay is just perfect. Being and old release some rare 'Frame' are miss focus, when HotRod is fishing for example, the first frames are out of focus, that was the case on all the DVD's so that must be a master problem, then PAF it become ultra clear. Doing A/B revealed that the DVD have compression noise and artifact along back outline, while the BluRay shows ultra fine grain and perfect blacklines.

Color POP and seems Right for one the first time

The print have some slight damage here and there.. but nothing that hits you

The audio is DTS 1.5mbits, DD 640kps and 2ch. I'am between AMP right now (going to get my Denon 3808 in 3 week) so i won't say much but the sound mix is the same as the DVD.

The DTS sound show better music, it's more Clear and precise..

There's no Supplements On this release

If you're a fan of the Animated Transformers and own the ULGY Sony version or even the Metronome Edition .. get it.. i paid about 28$CAD imported from UK and it work every piece of money...
