Thumbs down Sony KDS2000 or KDL-W3000?

hey guys im having some doubts about what to buy...I went to this official sony store where i finally managed to have a look at the kds2000 rear projection television...Now i was actually hoping to get the kds3000, which looks way better...the kds2000 is kinda old already so eventhough i was planning on buying this (or preferably the 3000, but doesnt come out in europe by the looks of it ) rear projection, now im having doubts about buying a normal lcd anyway...The dude from the store had good reviews about the kdl52W3000 lcd...
Now i know rear projection has better specs, but still the screens (the color, contrast, sharpness) still look better on those lcd's with lower contrast ratio's and response time...I wonder how this can be? When viewing the specs a rear projection's screen should be way better and sharper, yet it looks like as if the kds2000's colors are way more...'damp' than the lcd's...the colors just dont have that much color...
So im starting to think id be better off with a new lcd thats only a couple of 100 bucks more...Unless u guys can convince me otherwise? Should i get the (olllld) kds2000 projection model or just go for the new KDL3000 lcd series...Rear projection or lcd? Im probably going for the lcd anyways cause its newer and the kds is way old...atleast the 2000...unless u guys can really convince me that its like wayyy better? The lcd is ofcourse more thin, so i got more space, and also doesnt have a lamp that has to be replaced every couple of years...But its mainly for playing ps3 and watching tv..
I wouldnt mind hearing your opinions about this; thx in advance

My KDL52W3000 arrives on Wed!!! And I would recommend not even bothering to consider the rear projection. Like you said, for a couple hundred more you can get much newer and reliable technology and in a smaller package. Plus, think of the future. What if, in a year, you decide to mount your TV on the wall to add an air of elegance to your room or to just clear some clutter effect made by most TVs and/or TV units? To be honest, I'd like to see you try and get that rear projection off of the ground! That would make a great Break.com video. Having spent the last 8 months treking around town looking at every TV on the market I chose the KDL52W3000. In all fairness though, I really wanted to get the 52XBR4 though. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it at my "special price" because the store I bought from isn't considered part of a large enough volume market to carry the top end models. But, I'm still going to love that 52" W3000 like the dickens!!!

I have the KDL-46V3000 and I love it! I would much rather have this LCD over just about any projection available!!!

I have the KDL-40S3000 flat lcd on the wall in my bedroom and also a rear projection KDS-R60XBR2 in my living room both with a HD DVR and the quailty and detail is 20 times better on my xbr than the other one , on the KDL-40S3000 i always see pixelization and the detail is average at best , i would consider this tv an entry leave investment and that opinion is while watching an upconvertion dvd on it or ps3 . On the xbr the transition between fast moving objects is alot smoother and of course it is 1080p instead of 1080i like the KDL-40S3000 . My point to you is yes a little extra cash in your investment will pay off in the long run

My KDL-46XBR4 arrived as scheduled and I'm enjoying it immensely. It's a good looking TV (black borders with floating glass) with an even better looking picture. Amazing black level, rivals the plasmas from a couple of years back. And the colors just pop off the screen.

Only complaint I have right now is that nothing other than Blu-rays and PS3 games looks good. I probably sit too close (I sit 6 feet from the screen...I can't buy a 52" because I can see the pixels of a screen that size!), but even so, the high definition broadcast channels I used to think were close to pristine now look so...raw and pixellated. I probably need to play with the noise reduction filters and assorted settings a bit more before I can truly enjoy broadcast TV again.

enjoy

Girlfriend and I are so fired up since we can see the New England - Indianapolis game tomorrow in all its glory! Go CBS-HD!
