Default What I'm giving up for lent...

My sacrifice is going to be very difficult...I'm giving up blu ray purchases. I bought Cars on Mardi Gras as my last horrah. There are 2 reasons behind this madness: 1) The obvious, lent is about giving up something you enjoy; 2) On Monday, I will be ordering a Panasonic th-46pz85u to replace my decrepit Samsung RP HDTV. Every cent I save for the next 6 weeks from not buying movies will help me afford this new beauty that is slightly higher than my original budget (<$1000).

I do have netflix, so I can rent as much as I want (or at least as much as Netflix will let me).

If anyone else is giving anything up for lent and you would like to share, feel free to add to this thread.

P.S. - Don't turn this thread into a religous debate...PLEASE!

To the OP: that's great that you're giving up BD purchases for lent. I should probably do the same!

Does this mean that when lent is over you're going to go hog-wild on BD purchases? This might give a whole new meaning to the term "Easter eggs."

Good luck with your sacrifice

Good on you, and I wish I could do the same. I'm just horribly addicted though.

I've given up Coca-Cola/Pop recently, so you can probably consider thay my sacrifice for lent. And man do I love my Cola...

....withdrawal is hard

I definitely plan on buying Quantum of Solace on Easter Sunday and will probably end up picking up another 2 or 10 titles with it

I used to be a HUGE coffee-drinker...like 15-20 cups a day. A few weeks I decided to cut back to 5 cups max! It has been tough, but I've stuck to it. Does continuing this thru "Lente" count? I hope so!

This year I took some advice and decided to DO something instead of not doing something...and I'm hoping I like this better.

We'll see in 37 days.

I've given up Steak. I was always lead to believe that whatever you give up for lent you can then only do on sundays? Am I wrong? I thought this then meant I could have my steak on sundays!

I've always grown up not eating meat (though fish is ok) on Fridays during Lent, but whatever you are giving up is for the entire period.

Not eating meat on Fridays is generally a Catholic thing. Most protestant denominations pick one thing they love (usually a guilty pleasure) and give it up for the entirety of Lent.

Yes you are right. There are 40 days in lent not including Sundays. Sundays are "festival" days in which you do get to eat steak ( or do whatever you gave up or started to do). Google "festival sunday" so I do not have to tread more on others beliefs.

i am Catholic, and yes we do not eat meat on Fridays during Lent and also not on Ash Wed, Good Friday and Holy Saturday...

it is also quite normal to give up something you enjoy for Lent as well...

that being said... i usually give up booze for Lent, but i will be in Chicago and Florida for about 10 days... i didnt give it up because i didnt want to break that promise...
