Before she became a great star and two-time Academy Award® winner*, Jane Fonda was a screen ingenue who sent a string of bubbly romantic comedies soaring, including this charmer from the prolific pen of Norman Krasna (Bachelor Mother, The Devil and Miss Jones). Fonda portrays a virginal miss blessed with long limbs and a knockout profile who runs from her fiancé (Robert Culp) to the swingin’ pad of her brother (Cliff Robertson) and then into the arms of a guy she meets on the Fifth Avenue bus (Rod Taylor) — all the while trying to decide if she’ll say “yes” before she says “I do.” Filmed on location, Sunday in New York is a fun, sophisticated romp set to a hip Peter Nero score that features Mel Tormé singing the title tune.

I had it on mine as well. This is a really charming romantic comedy and one of my favourites starring Jane Fonda. Looking forward to picking this one up!

This quote comes from my post on the Warner Archive thread. I'm not re-posting to cause a ruckus or rain on anyone's parade, but to maybe stimulate some minor discussion. I've read the positive posts and enthusiastic responses to this announcement and am wondering if I'm missing something?
I welcome all responses.

The situations and dialog are so juvenile about sex it's hard to believe anyone was ever THAT repressed, particularly the characters in these films who are acting like they just graduated high school.

I love a lot of the 60's naughty comedies, but this one is so ridiculously tame and anachronistic, I can't even get through it. Oh well, if others enjoy it, that's cool. I'm very happy about MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM, a Day 1 buy for me, but I get that others will pass that one by without a second thought. And so it goes.

I saw this for the first time on the TCM Classic Film Cruise last October and found myself really enjoying it. The DCP they showed was gorgeous, and I was shocked when I checked later to see if a Blu was available only to find there wasn't. I'll definitely be ordering this (along with Selena the same day). Sure, it's not deep or anything, but it's light and frothy like cinematic champagne, and Peter Nero's score in particular is gorgeous.

I enjoy films like these as time capsules/historical documents of their respective time periods. Plus, it has an early Jane Fonda performance, and I enjoy her early comedic work.

I usually love most comedies of the 60’s as I am fascinated by that era in all ways and not just because I went from being 2 years old in 1960 to 11 in 1969. It was a hell of a decade to witness as a child, but that’s another story. Unfortunately, I find movies like SUNDAY IN NEW YORK and THAT TOUCH OF MINK to be a few years past their prime, heralding more from the repressive 50’s. I much prefer Jane Fonda in PERIOD OF ADJUSTMENT and BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, both of which reflect a little more reality concurrent with the era they were made.

However, I certainly am not telling anyone not to like SUNDAY IN NEW YORK and I would never dispute the fact that it produced one of the catchiest theme songs from any movie that decade. So I’m happy if others are happy about its release, but in all honesty Warner Archive continues to make me scratch my head more often than not.

I shall be blind-buying this one.

Jane Fonda was on the US edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire earlier this month. She's still hot as hell:

Belated review up on the main page. It's my first visit to the thread and, as luck would have it, a few of my screenshots are almost identical to those above.

I just caught this on TCM recently and I adored it!! I'm not a huge fan of Jane Fonda, and I was going in to it for Rod Taylor, but I really adored everyone in it. I do believe Jane has that natural "Fonda" talent. I also LOVED that apartment setup!!!

Yes, the apartment set is great. MGM apparently thought so too because they reused it the following year in Honeymoon Hotel (1964):

There was a "Book Club: The Next Chapter" promotion last week on iTunes and they dropped the price of Tall Story to $4.99 and (accidentally?) made the HD version purchasable for the first time. The HD version has been rental only since they added it 3 years ago. I don't know if it is a mistake so jump on it if you are interested in case they change it back to rental only. iTunes is currently the only place to get it in HD.
