The fax on PS4 has clarified that no the 12.5" SATA is not an option. Only 9.5" SATA HDD will fit furthermore they require the same specs as PS3's console's SATA drive. Wow right!
I got in the mail a WD 9.5" 1TB 5400. I was planning on using it for a new PS3 system. Having second thoughts about using it for PS4 instead. Would you guys upgrade the PS4? (Less games, memory hoarder) or Upgrade the PS3? (Massive amount of games, not too thirsty for memory) |

I'm still not getting this whole 'It does accept 12.5 then doesn't' crap
![]() ![]() Regarding the question, I was going to upgrade the PS4 I bought to 1TB at launch when I was wanting to keep it BUT info basically came forwards to say that the games pretty much install onto the HDDs, and imo, 1TB just won't cut it over the lifetime of the console. In fact, you're probably looking at 2TB+ HDD required if you like me don't like to delete stuff off such as installed games; only demos. 1TB on PS3 will be more than enough. I installed a 500gb, and only recently ran outta memory to where i'm under 20GB, but you also have the remedy of getting cheap 3-4TB external HDD storage and putting all the media on there and reserving the internal HDD space explicitly for game installs and downloads. You will NOT get that option with PS4 at launch if the current situation with the FAQs goes ahead. |

As for the question in the first post, I'd say upgrade the PS4 HDD. PS4 games are going to be super thirsty for HDD space. And while you can delete GBs upon GBs of cached data to make more room, I'd rather not have my bluray drive reinstalling GBs of data everytime I play a game. |

Not to mention they'd not all fit into the HDD space even if you had the highest size like you pointed out. I'm hoping, IF it works like I hope that every time you do, that the re-install is completely in the background and not visible. So you can game straight away while crap installs. ![]() |

I'm on 8 meg DSL, which means I get 6 tops, so the constant download and reinstall would be frustrating and a potential dealbreaker. I love how the XB1 will allow you to plug in a USB3.0 HDD and isntall & run directly from there, I'm really hoping the PS4 does that in the future with one of their updates, as that would alleviate this huge concern.
I would honestly rather that than swapping internal HDDs, not sure if it would be cheaper but would be a LOT more convenient. I really don't want to get in the business of shifting data around hard drives so I can play a game, if I throw something on an external I want to run it from there and not just use it for storage. |

I never filled my Phat 60GB HDD and I'm no where near my 320GB HDD on my Slim so, for the sort of gamer that I am I think 500GB will be fine for me!
I was thinking of upgrading on day one to a 1TB HDD but I don't think I'll need to. If I do need to upgrade I can get a decent 1TB for around £50! |

I need to get off my butt and upgrade that drive, but I do like the idea of taking the PS4 hdd out and using that instead, so I might pursue that when I get the PS4. |

![]() And then when you delete a games data, all the patches that you've got for it go too, so as well as installing from disc you'd have to re download all the patches from the net too. But I guess the real question is, will you be playing online games? In that case you should take advantage of the Instant Games Collection, making your HDD space even more of a premium. |

I think you also need at least 160gb set aside on the HDD since you can't use a HDD smaller than 160gb. HDD szes on the box are always bigger than what you actually get anyway, so you don't get 500gb to start with, plus you'll be losing howerver much space has to be set aside for the system. So you would be looking at maybe 400gb useable space, maybe less? from the get go ![]() |

IMO, I don't see any future that goes all digital if this crap keeps up. It's just too pipe dream to become a reality in the next 20 years imo. |

Is anyone gonna put in a SSD HDD into there PS4? If games must be installed to the HDD, wouldnt the 5400RPM slow down load time(although they are supposed to be minimal)
