Default Beowulf

I just saw a new trailer for a new movie... Beowulf

It is an ancient tale of a warrior king and monsters. At first I thought this was live action, and something was just.. off. Like bad special effects for too much computer graphics. Then I realized.. it is ALL computer graphics.
That threw me off a bit.

It looks pretty good but only time will tell. It will be out in 3D and IMAX 3D. If it is as good as I hope it is, it would be a great addition to BD since it is Paramount.

Default hijacked thread mwahahahahaha

i am so amped to see this movie. i am affraid that i cannot help but see it. i love all of these stories, beowulf, the iliad, the odyssey, prometheus bound (and just about every other greek mythological story). so despite it being paramount i must see it in the theater, maybe i will sneak in

but......i see that the movie is distributed by warner and paramount. so who gets the video release? warner has been somewhat redeeming themselves with putting pcm on their discs. i like that. makes me happy. (dice in hand) come on warner daddy needs beowulf on blu ray.

Paramount in North America, Warner Bros. for Europe, Australia, etc.

I had the same reaction the first time I saw it too. I thought the CG was good at first, but now I think it may be a bit irritating to me...can't say right now, but I probably would have enjoyed live action better.

Paramount switched sides... but I guess it wont be long now. HD-DVD is self-destruct mode so Paramount will be back pretty soon

Yeah, that's the thing:
Pixar can make fuzzy cartoon rats sort-of realistic in CGI, and it's the best animated of the year...
Robert Zemeckis can use motion-capture to create hyper-realistic PS3 characters that even look like Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie, and all we can think of is, "...So why did he even bother? "

(We're wondering, what movie will it take for us to finally beat it into Zemeckis's Sharper-Image-obsessed head that it takes more than a neato million-dollar mo-cap setup to make an animated movie?) -_-

http://www.imdb.com

Just type in any movies, and then click on "Company Credits". That's where you'll see all the production companies, distributors and more.

I am a little confused, how closely related is the Beowulf movie coming out in blu and this version. I realize one is heavy into CGIF and one isn't but is the story line the same?

The "PS3 version" has Neil Gaiman script, and focuses on Grendel's mother being a Hot Babe...
The "Other version" is a European import from two years ago, and isn't ashamed to use Real People in it.

I agree, this can be an issue. I do see something like Beowulf and Final Fantasy and think...why not just use the real actors?

But, on the flip side...Zemeckis makes good movies, so even if I think the mo-cap is for certain cases unnecessary...I still expect Beowulf to be good. For you Blu-Ray folks, Zemeckis is setting up shop at Disney now for a long term deal. His next film is in the same style, and it's A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey I believe. So...you can expect that in a couple years.

I'm certainly looking forward to Zemeckis' version of 'A Christmas Carol'. It's one of my favourite stories. I have several versions of it on DVD.

they're based off the same story. kind of like "invasion of the body snatchers" and "invasion" are based off the same story. but one is much better than the other no offense ms. kidman. beowulf and grendel, the live action one coming to blu, seems to be more of a low budget, closer to what real life is like movie. where this new cgi one is all special effects and looks pretty kick ass.

where is paramount getting all these good movies from? they've been pretty lame for the most part. now they've got ironman, transformers, beowulf, and others that escape me right now.

but hopefully all this insanity will end soon. and we can get these all on blu.

Exactly, by the time these titles are released in DVD and HD, there will have been multiple more months of HD-DVD pummeling behind us. Paramount's position on HD format support is not static as they have already shown.

Im getting a digital 3d version and we're doing a premiere the night before. should be freakin awesome. didn't i read somewhere that clash of the titans is being remade? with the cgi benefits, that movie should be king of the eye candy if its done right.
