Default Beowulf

I just had to comment on this film, it is without a doubt the best film i have seen in a long time, yes its animated but never has a film kept me hooked from start to finish as much as this one. The PQ and AQ is something else, from the opening scene where wer first see beowulf out in the ocean, till his fight with the monster in the sea to the end where he is battling with the dragon is unbelievable, my room literally shaked at some points. Forget I Am Legend and all the other highly anticipated films, this one blows the whole lot out of the water

Wait for the Paramount release which will be thrice better than the bit starved and 16-bit Dolby True HD version from Warner.

I've already posted this over at the IMDB, but will say that Robert Zemeckis Beowulf film has a superb script that is kneecapped by the incredibly strange decision to make the film entirely animated rather than live action. Tell me if i am wrong, but there are [I]three[I] non-human characters in the whole movie, yet they go through the process of creating cg models identical to the actors that are playing them and motion-capturing them!

I mean, what's the point? Shoot the darn thing live action in the tradition of Lord Of The Rings and you'd have a film that would have taken at least double the box office.

A major missed opportunity.

I agree live action would have been better, especially since the CG models look just like their acting counterparts. In a review of the HD-DVD, it was said that A LOT of the actors performances were missed with the animation after seeing some of the recording performances.

What absolutely ruined this movie for me is a stupid thing...but just changed the feel of the movie for me completely.

During Beowulf's first fight, being completely naked, everything was perfectly placed in the animation...a sword here, an arm there, a beam there...so no full frontal nudity (although CG nudity) was seen. Now don't get me wrong, it's not like I want to see a penis in every film I see...but what I'm saying is that it added strange layer of comedy to the fight, which I didn't like and doesn't really work.

I'll do another rental on blu-ray just to see the quality once it's out...but it's not a purchase for me.

Well...that ruined it in addition to the loss of detailed live action performances (even if the CGI was amazing, it still doesn't compare).

I found myself laughing during the entire fight/battle sequence...which I don't think is meant to happen...pretty sure you're supposed to be afraid or something like that...
