Default Deep Red - Email Response From Arrow

I sent Arrow an email asking if this would be the full version Anchor Bay put out a few years back. Here's the response.

At present a Blu-ray of Deep Red looks unlikely due to the availability of materials, though we are going to do our best to ensure that the best version is made available, this could mean that the release is delayed while we source or perhaps restore existing material.

When the release will eventually come out we will ensure that the most complete package is available – both cuts of the film and new special features and a booklet by Argento expert Alan Jones. With regards to cuts to the film this is dependent on the rule of the BBFC who have yet to see the film, though as with Argento’s Inferno a cut was made but due to pressure from the fans this was reversed so should we go down this route again you can make a difference!

Please keep an eye on our website as well as our twitter and Facebook pages for the latest details.

Regards,

Francesco [/I]

Hmmm on one hand he saying it looks like a no go and then he mentions what the package would include. Odd.

He means a DVD release is definite, but a Blu-ray release unlikely.

A liitle update from cult-labs forum by zombeaner:
In a common Arrow Video fashion, it will be 2-disc edition, with reversible covers, two-sided posters, art postcards and lots of extras.

I'd be genuinely excited if it wasn't Arrow. Sure I'll certainly upgrade for now, but after Inferno, am expecting too much noise reduction and a probable high emphasis on very poorly shot hd extras>film presentation. Still their newly commissioned artwork should highly amuse if nothing else. Roll on Blue Underground's version...

That surprises me. Does the truncated version known as 'The Hatchet Murders' ever really deserve a second viewing?

I agree. The longer cut needs to be released on Blu-ray!

Think I'll wait to reserve judgement before jumping the gun on this one. At leas it will be uncut which has surprised a few folks who were ready to boycott this release. Then again, Blue Underground have a very good Blu track record but, alas, not perfect.

Meh. I'm gonna wait and see what Camera Obscura in Germany does with all these Argento titles.

i prefer the shorter 'deep red' version that was released on pre-cert VHS. Same with Torso. I also like the Creepers edit of Phenomena, albeit on an equal level.

Hope we get both versions so everyone is happy. I greatly prefer the longer cut. You can never get too much of Daria Nicolodi.
