Default which display is less crap?No 1080p available for me

Sorry to bother. I have a question for which I guess I shuold give a little background info. I don't live in the us. I have to suffer from the price difference for developing countries. So if a sony kld 40xbr2 is 1700$, I'd have to spend 3330$!! a ps3 40gb is 60$ etc. I guess you get the point. So the tvs I can afford should be priced at 2000$ at the most. Unfortunately the only model available at that price are: philips lcd 42pfl5332, samsung lcd ln-40r71b, sharp lcd42043u, AOC l42w665,Samsung Bordeaux LN40R71B, and sony kdl-40s2000.

It's sad only these crappy options are available and at that over price. But I rather have one of those than watch my more than 20 bluray discs in a 20" display.

I would REALLY appreciate any feedback on these options.

Thanks a bunch.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought about it myself but the problem in that case would be customs and taxes. And also the inconvenience of a relative bringing something so valuable and fragile: I guess you have to pay for plane special fees or taxes in the us, too. They have discourage me from trying. I experienced something similar with dvd packs (a long time ago, before bluray), If ti was terrible then, I can just imagine what a nightmare it would be. SO that's why I'm asking for advice about those options I mention before for a new tv. As the old saying says, when in Rome Do as Romans.

It all depends how far you sit from the TV.
A 720p set might be all you need.
Example: you have to sit closer than 6 feet from a 42" set to notice the benefits of 1080p.
look at my sig below.

Thanks for responding. Actually I read your signature and went over the calculator before. It was reasurring since my viewing distance would actually be around 8.5 ft. What I was focusing on in this search was about other qualities that help one pick one tv out of the list I provided. Some claim the dinamic contrast has something important to do, others that the way the image is processed the 3:2 3:3 pulldown procesing etc. I want a serious opinion about oneof the not-so-attractive tv sets I am about to choose.

Some 1080p sets look worse than 1080i sets. The resolution is not the most important determinant in picture quality. I have a friend who has the Sony kdl-40s2000 and it looks very similar to my 40xbr3.
I would highly recommend the Sony. PM me if you get it and I can tell you the best settings for it as my friend got his calibrated.

Sorry I didn't get it, Are you asking about which tv I decided to buy or you wanted to suggest the samsung model?

Bye the way I noticed a new model available here. That is the sony 40sv3000 is it any good? It says 1080p(1920x1080) resolution.
