yeah this has been known, to me at least for awhile now. sorta lame how they lie about the resolution, but whatever. we'll probably have to wait till the next gen to get real 1080p games

i would rather have a game that is a little below 720p that has solid framerates, good AI, good animations, etc. than a 720p/1080p game that has framerate drops, dumb glitchs and the player runs, jumps, shoots, etc the same every time. the devs are making the right choices. i expect that we will be seeing more games in the future be able to do HD and full HD as the ps3 is still only being pushed to about 35%.

ps3 is the only console ready for full 1080p , DMC4 showed better depth of colors/backgrounds on ps3 more than 360

id agree that it is ready, we just don't know exactly how to harness the power for 1080p yet. looking at current ps2 graphics, in 7 years we are going to floored on what the ps3 can do and in 14, holy cow gran turismo 8 on ps4 will be more realistic than actually driving.

i'd say we're a few generations away from a game actually looking like real life. and i'm not convinced we'll see true 1080p games from either console, but i guess we'll find out

I thought my COD:4 is full HD.

My TV says this when I'm playing it: 1920x1080@60hz.

Not sure where you're getting the other stats for this game from?

we are talking about native resolution, the ps3 upscales it to 1080p automatically thats why your tv is saying 1080p. COD4 is barely about EDTV resolution though.

I see you left Ridge Racer 5 for PS3 blank. The back of the package says 1080p. If you want to blow away your friends, neighbors and relatives, play that game to show off the resolution on you HDTV. It will impress the hell of them.

I'm guessing you didn't read the op?

These numbers were attained by a pixel counter over at B3D forums. This isn't anything new unless you haven't been keeping up to date.

ok..so a couple of psn games and nba are 1080p. but where are the halo's and big games at 1080p?

the majority of the games in that list are not 1080p

Yes but you said that you aren't convinced that we'll see true 1080p games this generation, when we are already seeing them.

There's more than a couple by the way, plus the original guy over at B3D has not done this with all games (as it is very time consuming to count all the pixels on screen)

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (PS3) 1920×1080 FullHD
Full Auto 2: 1920×1080 AA 4x, bad framerate - PS3
NBA Street: 1920×1080 AA 4x (30-60fps) - 360
LocoRoco Cocoreccho 1920×1080 MSAA 2x -PS3
NBA 07: 1920×1080 - PS3
NBA 08: 1920×1080 - PS3
Blast Factor Demo: 1920×1080 PS3

Remember this is early in the PS3's life. Once they learn how to take advantage of the SPU's were going to start seeing some really amazing things in another years time.

i guess i worded it very badly lol. i wanna see worthwhile games at 1080p. and so far that hasn't happened. and it seems if graphics are going to continue to get better, it'd be harder to get 1080p with the limited amount of ram. but i suppose it was dumb of me to think that it wouldn't happen. the ps2 sure had some pretty graphics late in its life

1080p is just a standard and by no means does it account for quality.

Most games on current gen machines could pull off small arena games in 1080p, I would imagine the Tekkens, Virtua fighters, stadium games and the like would accomadate great gameplay, animation and 1080p.

A game such as God of War 3 could achieve this simply by having fixed cameras, relatively small arenas with loading in between (sometimes oblivious to the gamer).

So you have a trade, you can have 1080p, as long as the loading is frequent and you don't want long drawing distances. If you want long drawing distances and less frequent loading, you have to downgrade the resolution that allows it all to be managable.

On the 360, if you take Halo 3 vs Gears of War. GOW has smaller arenas and much higher detail, halo 3 has bigger maps and less detail. As both consoles seemingly get more powerful through coding, its just a simple equation of biting smaller pieces off at a time, dumping waste, being more efficient.

The problem being MS seem to focus on making great games, Sony on delivering great specs. Eventually the tide will change though.
