Default I did another side-by-side today

Last time I tried this was back when I first got some blu-rays, thought I'd try it again just for fun, and with a dual layer AVC film.

Test subject was Spider Man 2. I played the DVD in my PS2 using component cables, and the BD in the PS3 using HDMI. I set both to the car chase scene, pressed 2 X buttons at the same time, then flipped between them with my trusty remote.

As I suspected, like a day and night difference. Blu-ray was waayyy sharper; the DVD almost looked fuzzy by comparison. All the more reason I'm not afraid to get BDs of the DVDs I already have.

And the crazy thing is I only have a 1080i TV with a very simple 2-speaker stereo. I can't wait to try this test next summer after I make some upgrades.

LOL of course there will be a night and day difference.

It's always fun to toggle back and fourth to see what a huge difference it is. The funny part is that we used to think the difference with DVD was like night and day.

This is the kind of demonstration that the general public needs to educate them on the advantages of HDM. Until they see it they won't believe it!

That still would be a cool way to demo for friends - tho I wonder if PS2 would be a good DVD player to use? I've always thought the PS2 playback was pretty poor compared to regular standalone players, but then again I was watching it through component cables.

I agree 100% but the problem is the average person probably doesnt have their sets hooked up correctly so they think everything they watch is in HD.

I have to laugh when I go over to friends/family houses to see how they have their HD TV's hooked up. Scary sometimes.

I may yet test it against my recording DVD player, which can use HDMI but I've only one port for HDMI, so I'd probly just use component for the DVD again.

My old PS2 served as primary DVD player for a long time until about 2 years ago. I figured using it in my test would show how much better my home theater has gotten since 2001.

It is my understanding and experience that the PS3 is a better Blu-ray player than the PS2 was a DVD player.

U should do a side by side comparison of the upscale SD DVD in the PS2 against the PS3 with the SD disc and see the difference then.

Let us know.

That is a good point. I wonder what the quality difference of a DVD on the PS3 via HDMI vs PS2 via component would be? I am sure the PS3 would look better with the upscaling properties, but you should also turn that off and compare that way as well.
If only you could use 2 PS3s via HDMI on the same screen to compare the DVD and the BD.

"6x Better Resolution Than DVD".

DVD vs Blu-ray... uhm, yeah. If you have a display that can take advantage of 1080p resolution vs an upscaled DVD, you should see the difference.
