That’s DTS-HD bitstream – I am talking about DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream.

There are maybe 2 titles with DTS-HD only and not DTS-HD Master Audio, so that’s not helping anybody.

I will support Sony products, but this glaring omission in the PS3 and the BDP-S1, BDP-S300, BDP-S500 and BDP-S2000ES needs to be addressed.

Will DTS-HD Master Audio through bitstream be supported by a firmware update?

I don't think the PS3 can ever output DTS-HD Master Audio over HDMI.
I believe it's HDMI out isn't a full 1.3 (video it is but not audio)

I have to dig up some links to verify.
However, it may be able to decode them internally and pass it over HDMI via PCM.
If it does, it will be the first player ever to do so.

Nice. The Elite BDP-95FD is getting rave reviews.
The 500 is essentially the same machine minus the media center and Elite treatment. (possible minor audio differences)

It does truehd internally right now. It might not pass it as bitstream, just pcm, but that is good for many more people. Passing it as bitstream would make it available to few people, with no real benefit.

Must say this is good news. Even if I think they should have shipped doing the higher end codecs. At the current prices of these players not supporting then is almsot unforgivable.

i have both the BDP-S300 and BDP-S500 models
load times are roughly the same was hoping it was going to be quicker myself but that comparison was done on FF silver surfer

the picture looks about the same

there is a difference in the sound not that the 300 doesnt sound fantastic, but the 500 does sound better

The Elite 95 is the first player to bitstream ALL audio codecs out of the box. It will not and will never decode DTS-HDMA internally though. Through reading more about it. I guess it is more than just a firmware update to allow DTS-HDMA to be decoded internally. I was under the impression that the player needs to have a certain chip to allow it to take a firmware upgrade to do DTS-HDMA. The Samsung 1400 has that chip and some of the new players do, but not all of them.

As of right now the 1400 is the only player with the right chip. the biggest problem is the fact that it is a Samusng product. So them adding support is a dream.

The Elite BDP-95FD is getting the same opinions over at avs. The best Blu player PQ and SQ wise yet.
It would not surprise me if the 500 is the same(or at least extremely close) being they are virtually the same player.
I wonder how good the 2000ES performs?

I think the DMP-BD30K is going to be a winner too for PQ.

I've been going back and forth trying to decide on a new player, I think the s500 will be getting my money. I'm also thinking about getting the new Panasonic as well.

Very well I'm sure considering how the S-500 is preforming .I got half way through
" Resident Evil " loving picture and sound then gave it that SD test we all love.I put "Lethal weapon 4" in finding 1080p upscaling to be the best Ive ever seen.Sony PQ is way better then Sammys 1200 Getting no PS3 grainy look what so ever...I must add that I love my PS3
Brilliant color in 1080p Truly came alive on my Plasma tonight members and I couldn't be more happy
Ive lost all worry about not being in 1.1 land. This player will do me well for a few years.

I would likely wait to read a few reviews first but from the initial specs I've seen I have all but made up my mind that this will be my second player. The Panasonic looks like an incredible package.

Just curious..
Does the Pioneer Elite 95 have a Sony transport and Sony laser pick-up arm inside the 95??
If so, this would be a first to me, because I thought Pioneer DVD (and possibly BD as well) players had Pioneer-built transports and Pioneer-built laser pick-up arms.
I'm simply asking this question because I have a DVD or two that plays fine on Sony players, but will not play well on Pioneer players that have Pioneer-built transports and Pioneer-built laser pick-up arms. Between the transport mechanism and the laser pick-up arm, I don't know which is the culprit.

Thanks,
Jodi
