Just recently purchased a new LG 50" plasma that is capable of 720p or 1080i. Sorry folks, just couuldn't shell out 2500.00 for the 1080p. I'm trying to make up my mind about buying a Blue ray player. I'm wondering if it's really gioing to be a step up from the HD dvd and regular broadcast.
Any input would be appreciated. DJ |

Yes.
I purchased the Target Black Friday Olevia 1080i TV and did the same research you're conducting now. Blu Ray still looks 10000000x better than a standard DVD , even on 720p/1080i. I absolutely love my S300. Regardless, your friends will be in awe either way. |

I was specifically refering to HD broadcast i.e. HD cable or HD satellite and HD DVD's as opposed to Blue Ray.

OK, BLU ray. Do I have a clarity/sharpness advantage purchasing a Blu ray player in conjunction with my 720p/1080i plasma?
Again, thanks. DJ |

OK. Next question......Blu ray players, PS3's, Xboxes, have all gone down in price in the past few months. Should I hold out and wait for these technologies to become less expensive?
When I first saw HD tv's, a 50" plasma (now this is back 6-8 years ago) would have cost in the neighborhood of $12,000.00. Now they're in the 1200.00 - 1800.00 range. Should I wait? Then too, maybe the blu ray vs HD dvd war will be over. DJ |

Plus... TVs will always drop in price. All technology drops everytime a new one comes out. They are just like computers and other electronics. That is just the nature of the beast. Theres no point in depriving yourself of a great setup! I wouldnt hit up the most expensive stuff but you can get quality middle of the road gear that will last you a while!

Live a little take that TV back and get a 1080P. I'm replacing my almost 2 year old set that is 720p/1080i upconversion with a 1080P/24fps/120hz. According to the Aztec calendar the world will end in December 2012 so I want to see Batman Begins and Dark Knight and Iron-Man in all their glory when they finally come to blu-ray before the world explodes...

Same here...although I did notice this minimal difference..I thought the 720p looked just a little bit better, but I guess it was my tv that didn't display 1080i that well. |

Try both and see what looks best. Sometimes sending a 1080i signal and having the projector downscale to 720p looks better then sending a 720p signal.
