I say this, because I'm always very very reluctant for various reasons..
eg. I was thinking just now about Pretty Woman which was released in 2009, and I say "What if we get a new 4K release this years perhaps for the film's 25th anniversary?" I want to buy The Passion of Christ, but what if a steelbook is released that I'd love for this film? So, my 2 main reasons are newer/better scan/release, and better packaging. Yes, I know, i could sell the ones I bought if a newer/better release comes along, but really I don't want to get into this.. |

You're also gambling on Disney with Pretty Woman... and as far as I know, Disney hasn't been willing to pay for any 4k restorations unless it is an actual Walt Disney Pictures film. Touchstone/Hollywood/Caravan have not been given the same love as the WDP properties.
Matter of fact, Disney did license quite a bit of the Touchstone/Hollywood/Caravan properties to Mill Creek. My advice is to just buy what you love. If a better version comes along, decide if the difference is worth the repurchase. I still have the old 70th anniversary Casablanca because I just can't justify paying another $8 to $14. And I only rebought Ghostbusters because the limited edition Slimer figure set was mispriced at TCM Shop. I kind of wish I didn't pull the trigger on that as I have yet to watch the newly remastered 4k film or its sequel. |

Older releases are also dirt cheap.
That being said, if it's something from 2006-2009 and I don't have it, i probably passed on it for a reason. I don't have an explicit rule, but I'm probably not buying too many blu-rays from that era anymore. I'm done adding "volume" of movies to my collection. |

![]() This again If a favorite film of mine or a film i enjoyed was released with no cover and just a blank case or even a hand written blank insert with the films title I would still buy it regardless As yourself this are you buying because you like the film or you like the packaging more |

To each his own but I find it to be a silly waste of money. I've been snatching up a lot of used discs and I am not fretting one bit about new transfers. If I like the movie enough, yeah I may re-purchase, but thats not likely to happen with much frequency. |

After a couple scattered incidents like The Third Man and Bird with the Crystal Plumage getting yanked and replaced with bad re-releases from different labels and the first version skyrocketing in price, I prioritize old discs I want over new ones :P

I could take the Star Wars original theatrical films wrapped up in a newspaper. But if there is a possibility of a favourite film of mine to receive a beautiful steelbook, I will prefer that one. I don't say I collect steelbooks etc., just some favourite films. And certainly I don't double dip for better packaging. if you see my collection only 15 out of 154 are steelbooks. But besides the film itself that matters, I'd like my collection to be pleasing aesthetically too to my eyes. |

If the new version is dirt cheap, I will sell the old release and buy the new one. eg. Terminator/RoboCop/Rocky... If not, I just keep the "old" version which is also excellent. eg. Sound of Music/Wizard of Oz... |

The Terminator, Robocop, and Rocky all had new 4K scans and they definitely blow away their previous releases!

I double dip for a new restorations if it's really an improvement, I don't really care about extras, I very rarely watch them, I would rather spend the time watching a different movie, but thats just me.

The original Rocky and RoboCop releases were fine. The new restorations are better but I could live with the first releases. |

Not at all
I don't worry about future releases but I have recently been having the dilemma of wanting to upgrade certain films for their 3d release. I'm actually about to go double dip on Edge of Tomorrow if the 3d version is still at my local Target closing sale. I bought it used for $10 a couple weeks ago blind, watched it last night and ended up liking it more than I thought I would. Is life. |
