Let me know your experiences with pre-orders on Amazon.com if you would. When you pre-order something, do you get it the day it is released or after? Just wondering how that works as I have NEVER done a pre-order in my life. Nothing would piss me off more than knowing I could get a "long awaited" BluRay that day only to have to wait a day or two longer just to get it in the mail as a "pre-order". Is Amazon supposed to make sure you get it in your mailbox on release day or does all of that go out the window?

Well I have Amazon prime.
All new releases typically ship out on Monday and I receive it on Tuesday day of release. I don't think they are bound to have it to you on day of release as even prime members get 2 day delivery estimates that start on the day of release. For example POTC delivery estimate says shipping on the 4th and arrive on the 6th. but in actuality it shipped out on the 3rd and I received it on the 4th, day of release. I think it helps to order early too. If you sit on it then you may not get a copy from their first allotment of any given title. All the customers who paid for expedited shipping and Prime members will get their orders fulfilled first and everyone with Super Saver Free shipping usually go last. If you live close to an Amazon dist facility then that may also affect how quickly you get it. I love Amazon prime especially for ordering Blu-ray movies. I just got too frustrated with availability being hit or miss at multiple stores. Last edited by Go Blu; 12-05-2007 at 01:45 PM. |

In general, Amazon has shipped my pre-orders on the day of release. Sometimes I even get the "has shipped" notice the evening before the release date.
Recently they have flubbed a few of the hot new Blu-rays, like the Kubricks. They didn't have enough on hand when the release date rolled around I guess. I expect this will happen less as blu-ray becomes more standard and less of a specialty item. |

same, mine usually get on the actual truck on the day of release, and arrive 2 days later, usually on thurs.
can't complain though, saves me the gas of driving to get it, and the price is usually a lot better. |

same here, I usually get the "has shipped" on Mondays and get the dvd on Wednesday. Not that big of a deal since I usually don't watch until Friday's anyway. Plus it saves me the trip and Amazon is usually as cheap if not cheaper than most

No problems at all. I usually go with free shipping and they get here within a week of release. Since I have such a huge backlog of Blus, it's not that big a deal. If I want something right away (Simpsons movie), I'll pick it up at Wal*Mart. Don't believe Amazon's shipping estimates. They are inflated so that they don't overpromise on delivery. My POTC Blu wasn't supposed to get here until after Xmas but it's already on it's way and should be here tomorrow.
To Amazon's credit, they'll split free shipping orders with different release dates so that you can get the earlier release sooner. Great customer service! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You do have to pay for shipping, either Prime or regular, to get stuff on time. If you go Free Shipping as I always do, I'm lucky now to get my pre-ordered stuff by the Saturday after the prior Tuesday release. And that's somewhat rare to get it that week. It usually comes the next week. (But then my pre-orders with free shipping from Warners is even worse, so I don't fault amazon.)
It didn't used to be the case, though, with amazon. I used to get my stuff mailed out the weekend before the Tuesday release and might get my stuff on that Tuesday or Wednesday, even with Free Shipping. Now, I even seem to get orders for stuff that's not Blu-ray earlier than I get pure Blu-ray orders. Can't explain that. But, since I'd rather save more money with Free Shipping, I will wait to get my Blu-ray stuff. -Greg |

Before I signed up for Amazon Prime the movies that I pre-ordered would be shipped the day of release or the day after release. With 300 it ended up shipping the Friday after release because they sold out. When I joined Amazon Prime, my orders always ship out the day before release date with free two day shipping. I still never receive it on the day of release, but I do get it the day after and the amount of money saved by ordering from Amazon more than makes up for it. If I save $3 to $5 on each Blu-ray disc I order, it is worth the wait for me.

Both Amazon and Warner Home Video can try my patience with the delayed arrival of newly released titles.
I always go for the for the free shipping that saves more that typically saves an additional 10% Amazon: Most preordered titles arrive by Thursday or Friday of the release week. Some take longer. WHV: I use the 25% off code and purchase more than $60 on each order. They are very irratic and more problematic. They shipped out the first titles I received promptly and I received some on the day of their release. However, I still don't have Ocean's gift set and It was released on 11/13 (25% discount and free shipping). I assume they are waiting to send it out with another preorder title coming up to save their shipping cost. 140 Blu titles purchased - the discount prices and free shipping really adds up; so I just keep that in mind. |

I had POTC:AWE on pre order from Amazon since July (2 day shipping) This mourning, 12-5-07, I saw it hasn't been sent yet. I called them and told her If I didn't get it by the 6th as promised, I wasn't paying for shipping. She appologized and told me it would be sent out overnight with no shipping charge.
I just checked my order status and the Movie is shipping today, total price $18.43??? Who knows, but i'm not complaining now. |
