Default I educated some people today

I've read a couple stories about this; now I've one of my own.

At the store, I'm scoping out some Blu-rays, there's ppl looking through the red section. They get to the end are saying "Where is it?". So I ask, :What're looking for?" She says "Fantastic 4 in HD." I told her, "That's only available on Blu-ray." I could tell she wasn't too well informed on hi-def. She added "We're getting our father a Toshiba HD-DVD player." I retorted, "That thing's a lemon." She curiously asked why. I explained how blu-ray has far more supporting publishers and great movies, and that one of Blu-ray's players is a better deal and still comes with 5 freebies. I also showed them copies of 300 and the Die Hard series on the shelves, and we got into talking about how great Die Hard With a Venegeance is. I concluded by telling them about this here site and said it's best to do some homework on hi-def before buying.

Hopefully I've steered their family in the right direction.

i try to do the same. people think that hd dvd is dvd in hi def and blu-ray is some strange technology that won't play dvd's. i acknowledge that hd dvd may win over a lot of people purely because of the name, but there is also no reason why blu-ray cannot become commonplace.

The name can work against their side too. Many have bought HD-DVDs thinking they'll work in standard DVD players, only to return them after learning otherwise.

I tend to notice that most people in this country unless it says HD...something, Ipod, or DVD on it, they tend not to know what it is. Even today most people go, "What the hell is a Zune". I guess knowing about gadgets and really being into them is somewhat taboo in America. The other day at BB some lady threw a fit because BB, along with most national chains, don't carry CRT TVs (tube ones) anymore just HD sets. She went on a 5 minute rant about corporate America shoving new, "useless technology" when stuff like DVD and SDTV are just fine for the average Joe. Then started comparing it to the mortgage problem in America and over all debt in America (she really lost it then). About a minute later, security took her out the door. Not before she said that anyone who spends 1k on a TV is "God damn idiot". What a *****. I guess she could go to Target and get herself a marvelous Trutech 27in for a $150. LOL

I think I'm going to learn ventiloquism. Then I can walk around the red section at best buy throwing my voice like the voice actor from Gauntlet.

"Red Valkyrie needs food badly; Red Valkyrie is about to die."

Seriously. If one store doesn;t have what you're looking for, try the next. Like you said, I'm sure Wal-Mart and Target have something in her range.
