Default Old TV, PS3 and Blu-Ray discs

Hello,

I have an older TV (Sony Wega) that is not an HD-TV. I noticed that Blade Runner is coming out on Blu-Ray and since the quality of this will be better than a regular DVD I would like the best that there is.

So I have an older TV and no Blu-Ray player. I was thinking of getting a PS3. I know that my Xbox 360 has component video and I can play my games on SD.

So what will happen if I hooked up a Blu-Ray player (the PS3) and tried to watch the Blu-Ray disc of Blade Runner? Would it not work because the Blu-Ray disc would only run on a HD TV?

Yes, I'm a newb with this. Please help.

It would work, it just won't be HD. When you set up the PS3 it asks for the resolutions your TV supports and outputs all content at that resolution, upscaling, or downscaling as needed.

it will work but it will be in SD . u need a HD TV or even FULL HD which is 1080p since blu ray is already 1080p to get the best PQ.

i watched blu-ray movies on my 36" sony wega for a good 3 months before getting an hd tv,

1.) yes it will work

2.) despite the fact that your tv is not HD, the sony i had accepted component cables, and the picture did look a lot better than my regular dvds. Also seemed more colorful.

buying a dvd at this stage in the game would be like buying a cassette tape when CDs are out.

I would imagine Blade Runner in SD will still be a great improvement over the DVD since the DVD was lackluster.

Rick

EDIT: I was referring to the old DVD. I haven't seen the new one since I am getting it on Blu-Ray.
