Default DVD Sales to slump by 3% in 2008

http://www.videobusiness.com/article...dustryid=47213

This is why all the studios will get together and mutually agree on one format in 2008.

Money is being lost!

And that's why a Warner switch to exclusive is looking more and more likely all of the time.

This has gone beyond a intellectual exercise, now its about $$.

Yes, this is old news already...
but the analysts also predicted this year would be down by 1%. However after a few great weeks in December, they have found that it is not down afterall.

They could be wrong about next year too. They are, afterall, just guessing based off certain facts. Meteorologists are wrong all the time, same thing.

Either way, it will give them incentive to support 1 format to replace DVD, and promote the new HD media.

oh...I wonder why money is being lost....

maybe because a bulk of the people who were frequent DVD shoppers went high def exclusive

hopefully soon we can say HD and it will be known as Blu....

Yep, I think they all realize what is at stake here. One format needs to walk out of 2008.

I'm certainly not buying SDs--except for the occasional TV series that isn't on Blu and won't likely be for years to come (if ever).

Columbia House keeps calling me, and I keep telling them I'm not interested in what they have to offer like Shrek, Transformers, or Bourne in SD or HD.

You bet.

As soon as the DVD slump % crosses the HDM surge % on the finincial modeling graph, WB will dump HD-DVD and go BD exclusive. By that time, probably mid-2008 by my own estimation, there will simply be way too many PS3's in the wild to ignore.

I used to purchase at least 10 dvd's per month. But, earlier this year stopped since I was eventually going to go with an HD format. The only dvd's I now purchase are kids movies and tv shows. So right their over the past year. The studios have lost 100 dvd purchases. And I am sure I am not the only one.
