Default De Palma (Noah Baumbach/Jake Paltrow)

De Palma Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

NEWS/TRAILER
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=19464

Quote:
A24 Films and Lionsgate Home Entertainment will bring to Blu-ray directors Noah Baumbach and Jake Paltrow's documentary De Palma. The release will be available for purchase on September 13.

Synopsis: In this lively, illuminating and unexpectedly moving documentary, directors Noah Baumbach and Jake Paltrow engage in a personal and candid discussion with De Palma, exploring not only his life and work but also his singular approach to the craft of filmmaking and his remarkable experiences navigating the film business, from his early days as the bad boy of New Hollywood to his more recent years as a respected veteran of the field. In the end, what emerges is a funny, honest, and incisive portrait of a truly one-of-a-kind artist, and an exhilarating behind-the-scenes look at the last 50 years of the film industry through the eyes of someone who has truly seen it all.

De Palma is one of the most talented, influential, and iconoclastic filmmakers of all time. De Palma's career started in the '60s and has included such acclaimed and diverse films as Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Blow Out, Scarface, The Untouchables, Carlito's Way, and Mission: Impossible.

Pleasantly surprised this is getting a blu-ray release. Never was gonna make it near me theatrically.

I'm surprised too. It's not the kind of film that Lionsgate or A24 typically distributes, especially on Blu.

Wasn't expecting a DC code for this...nice. Great doc for De Palma fanatics.

I haven't seen it yet, but this is probably one of the safest blind-buys of all time. I looked for theatrical play in L.A. (outside of the Aero members-only screening), but didn't find any (although it may have opened and I missed it). Can't wait to buy and watch this.

I'm very much looking forward to this, I'm a huge De Palma fan. To anybody who has seen this: are there many clips from De Palma's films in the documentary and what is the quality of those ? Are they Blu-ray quality ?

It's nothing but De Palma interview segments interspersed with clips from his films and a few other sources (plus the occasional personal photo from his youth). The film clips are copious and of excellent visual quality. They're also VERY spoileriffic at times, so if you haven't seen all of his movies, tread lightly.

Is the interview audio played OVER the clips? I would be severely disappointed if everything grinds to a halt to show clips. I assume the interview keeps on trucking since this documentary got great reviews.

very true - I had to kind of blank out during the 'Blow Out' section of the doc.

Yes, De Palma's commentary often plays over the clips (making this the first de facto De Palma commentary on any of his movies ).

I missed this at my local art house, so I'm looking forward to seeing it. I better catch up on some of the De Palma films that I haven't seen though (Phantom of the Paradise, Sisters, The Fury, Blow Out and Casualties of War are the big ones).

Heard he talks about the deleted title wave sequence from Snake Eyes and they even show the footage. Can anyone confirm?

Yes, they include the footage, but it's in terrible VHS workprint quality. Still, awesome to finally see it.

Very cool. Was actually talking with Carla Gugino about that scene the other day. She said she was soaking wet for two days. Also said she loved working with Depalma.
Can't wait to see the doc.

I'm not a huge DePalma fan, but I'm interested to see this; glad it's getting a blu. Maybe this'll even turn me around on some DePalma flicks.
